On the last Thursday of the term, all students enjoyed practising their PE skills they have learned throughout the term in Tinsel Town PE. The Grinch stole Christmas and took over Santa’s grotto so students needed to wade through the green gunk, practise their racket skills to fend off the green snowballs before rescuing him from the clutches of the Grinch by thinking through the strategy of Elf Jenga and Frisbee Frenzy. A candy cane bout of fencing made sure Santa was back on the ‘nice’ list. It is always excellent to see our students excel and show off their skills they have learned, recognising equipment and transferring actions to different scenarios. #Disability #DisabilityAawareness #DisabilitySport #Spot #PE #PETeacher

#Repost from @projectrescuechildren We often share how important online safety is especially in the grooming world. This educational video from New Zealand is a straight to the point view of what is happening to so many children. There are three different scenarios in this video with online grooming the second. Scenarios one and three are also important. We urge parents to sit down and have regular conversations with your children about their online activities and check your children’s devices to know who they are chatting or interacting with online. The responsibility of children’s safety online lies on parents not the children. #projectrescuechildren #onlinesafety #grooming #dontpresssend #cyberbullying #challenges #classmate #ex #depressed #emotional #sadteens #school #saynotobullies #teacher #studentlife #todaysyouth #kids #teens #reality #publicspeaker #facebook #instagram #twitter #raisingchildren #structure #strategies #teenager #parents #youthmentalhealth #digitalwellness #socialmediaawareness

Water has a powerful draw for autistic youth and adults, engaging many senses. It’s visually satisfying, feels unique, and provides deep pressure when submerged. My brother Tommy, like many of my former students, loves diving into water. His signature move, a backward flop, is affectionately named “the Tom” by my kids during diving contests. While water is incredibly alluring, it also poses a significant danger. Drowning is the #1 cause of death among individuals with ASD, with kids being 160 times more likely to experience nonfatal and fatal drownings compared to their neurotypical peers. Some regions, districts, and community leaders are taking action by including swimming lessons and water safety in summer programs and goal planning. This is essential, especially for twice-exceptional youth like my brother who are both deaf and autistic. It should be a top priority for all families to consider, particularly if someone is nonverbal. Swimming is a wonderful activity that helps with regulation and health. Let’s dive in and advocate for early access to swimming lessons for ASD youth so everyone can safely enjoy this beloved summer pastime. #Inclusion #Safety #AutismAwareness #WaterSafety

An innovative collaboration between Penrith City Council Children's Services and Ripples has seen over 50 preschool children and more than 120 out of school hours care students participate in weekly Learn to Swim lessons. Thirty children in our vacation care programs have similarly gained vital life skills through lifesaving sessions, including CPR, basic first aid and deep-water rescue techniques. This program is a shining example of how two Council business units can work together to create meaningful, accessible opportunities for families in our community. For time-poor parents or those managing tight budgets amidst rising costs, these programs provide an affordable, practical solution to ensure their kids build confidence, swimming skills and have fun in the process! We are proud to be part of a collaboration that delivers real value to families and helps foster safer, stronger communities. #PositivelyPenrith #Collaboration #CommunityImpact #SwimSafe
