It’s agonizing to go through a hard time with your #teen. Your teen is your #kid, your #child. As a #parent, you worry more than your teen likely knows. One of the great challenges of #parenting #teenagers is that there can be a lot to worry about. #Parents sometimes get a reputation for being disconnected from their kid’s struggles, but we’ve found that doesn’t usually match up with reality. Plenty of parents are involved in #teens’ lives, but still struggle to connect with what’s going on or, more relevantly, how to help. Read more:

Adolescence can be a difficult experience for many children but explaining the process is also difficult. Here are a few tips on how to prepare your preteen for the changes that will take place over the next 8-10 years of their life. First, keep in mind that these changes can be exciting and stressful for a child so it is very important that they are made aware of what is considered normal and healthy. Explaining that their bodies will grow and develop quickly or slowly can help manage realistic expectations. If you aren’t sure you are able to answer their questions, feel free to get their personal care professionals involved. As their caregivers, you may notice that they have a greater desire for personal space, privacy, or independence. This is normal. The best way to support your child is to set age-appropriate boundaries that give them a sense of independence while reinforcing safe and parent-approved practices. - #preteens #adolescence #pubertyprep #teenhealth #askapro #whattoexpect #healthypreteens #bodychanges #supportyourteens #personaldevelopment #healthykids #givethemthefacts #tipsfromdrE

Kids are the greatest observers! Parents shouldn't hide emotions or completely unleash them without limits. Instead, they should openly talk about their emotions to their child, especially about the causes of their emotions and how they are trying to deal with them. But lets understand, STRESS, ANGER, FEAR – all are REAL emotions. And our children will face them too (now or later). Showing kids that we have to be happy or stress free all the time will cause more damage than good. They may never know how to deal with these emotions, because they’ve never seen anyone they love get stressed and bounce back. Communication is the key. Everytime you feel sad, angry, or frustrated and you see your child is watching you expressing such emotions, be honest with them. Talk to them about what’s going on, explain the situation in easy, age-appropriate terms that they can understand. Parenting is by no means an easy thing, it involves setting clear and consistent boundaries, promoting the development of essential life skills, and nurturing a child's emotional and social well-being. **Are We Helping or Hindering? The Long-Term Impact of Over-Parenting on Children** Parents naturally want to support and protect their children, but doing everything for them can have significant long-term repercussions. When parents consistently manage all aspects of their child's life, it can impede the development of essential life skills such as problem-solving, independence, and resilience. Children who are over-parented may struggle with self-confidence and decision-making as they grow older. They may become overly reliant on their parents, leading to challenges in adulthood where self-sufficiency is crucial. Additionally, this dependency can contribute to increased anxiety and stress, as they may feel unprepared to tackle life's challenges on their own. It's crucial to strike a balance. Encouraging children to take on age-appropriate responsibilities fosters their sense of competence and autonomy. By allowing them to make mistakes and learn from them, parents can help their children build the resilience and self-reliance needed for a successful and fulfilling future. Let's empower our children by guiding them, not by doing everything for them. #Parenting #ChildDevelopment #LifeSkills #Independence --- For further reading on the impact of over-parenting and strategies to promote independence in children, check out [Psychology Today](https://lnkd.in/gTbEP2MB) and [Verywell Family](https://lnkd.in/gbjKrb_i).

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟲 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱'𝘀 𝗲𝘆𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗵𝗶𝗺/𝗵𝗲𝗿 "𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽? This may sound like 𝙖 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙗𝙞𝙜 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚. As parents or caregivers, you often find yourselves rushing to solve problems for your children. You give advice, share your experiences, and sometimes unintentionally take over. However, have you ever paused, looked into your child’s eyes, and simply asked, "𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙄 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥?" Hmmm, you heard me right. 🤓 Do you know that by asking this question, you create space for your child to share their feelings and needs? Maybe they do not want any advice. They just want to talk. 𝗢𝗿 perhaps, they are looking for guidance on how to handle their emotions. Whatever the case may be, the simple act of asking allows them to feel loved, cared for, respected, and empowered to express themselves. This approach builds trust 🤝 and opens up meaningful conversations. Children feel more connected when they know their parents are there to listen, not just to solve problems. It also encourages them to think critically about what they truly need, helping them develop problem-solving skills and emotional awareness. So today, take a moment to connect with your child. Look your child in the eye and ask her/him, "𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙄 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥?" You might be surprised at the impact this small gesture can have.
