Why I am a doer & a joiner and what Eastern Germany has to do with it 3 October is Germany's reunification day, not a day known as festive as the 17 May in Norway for example. This day always leads me to reflect on my own life as a Post-East German child. Each year, I feel gratitude that I am able to travel and now live even abroad in Norway despite my parents being once told that they would not be able to leave Eastern Germany before their retirement. But what have I carried with me into this world whose doors are wide open to me? I believe that growing up in a Post- Eastern German setting/ mindset has helped me to be an initiator and a doer. My whole childhood in the rural North East of Germany 🌊 was marked by starting things, to have things happening. My parents came up with their own floor heating system when solutions weren't available. They started their own company during GDR times to be independent. Their "DIY" mentality was always present and an inspiration.🌟 As a teenager, me and my friends organized media workshops for other young people, all while improving these skills ourselves. These people and projects taught me about democracy, true participation and how to motivate others and myself. There was this beautiful sense of accomplishment after you created something with "your own 2 🙌" (as my dad would say, although he might have meant physical labour 😉) These days I frequently think of the people that made me an initiator and who keep on being engaged in my home region. I know many of you are hands-on doers and initiators. What led you to be this way? Let's exchange in the comments 💬 #wiedervereinigung #reunification

Excerpt from 'Being a Distance Grandparent - a Book for ALL Generations' "Oftentimes Distance Grandparents are referred to as global grandparents. I spent time debating these two titles. I chose to embrace Distance Grandparents, rather than global grandparents, for two reasons. First, if you live on one coast of the U.S.A. or Canada and your grandchildren live on the other you are definitely a Distance Grandparent. You might all live in the same country, but you have to cope with geographical barriers and boundaries just like globally-separated families. These grandparents need to be acknowledged in this book and shouldn’t be excluded because they aren’t global in a nationality sense. Global sounds a little more prestigious and, yes, does remind you it comes with a certain fascination and curiosity, but the reality is the distance never goes away and no amount of global charm will offset the reality that we are Distance Grandparents, more than global grandparents." #BeingaDistanceGrandparent #DistanceFamilies #USGrandparents #CanadianGrandparents #Grandparenting #GrandparentsDay

I went to the second of my 10-year HS reunions this past weekend. There is another video about my afterthoughts (https://lnkd.in/eZhb8VsC). But I wanted to share this pre-video on LinkedIn because there's a hidden message that I think is more important for this platform. I want to run for President (yes, the real POTUS 😣). While on my road trip, learning about America, connecting with people, I'm seeking to understand why we're so divided and what we can do to come together as a nation. This two-party system that we have has gotten too out of hand. I feel like, with the younger generations, the reason we're so "on the fence" about politics is because life isn't as black and white as the beliefs of these two parties make it at the end of the day. I feel like neither of them truly stand for Independence and freedom which is what makes life valuable and leads to happiness. There's been a small influx of late of younger generations into Congress and other government systems and some small wins in these areas. But I don't think we can get to a better future from within this bipartisan party system anymore. If my trip is successful and there is support for me to run, I will run as an independent party. Unfortunately, the 35 year minimum age will prevent me from being an official candidate for another two cycles. But we'll see how to cross that path when the time comes. The last point I'll mention for right now is that we need people in the system that are focused on working together to solve problems for all of America and not just being attached to the world that they are seeing. There are many qualified people in technical and non-technical advisement, leadership and decision-making roles. We need a leader who will be able to bring out the true potential that's sleeping behind bad bureaucracy. We need a leader that can make our pledge of allegiance meaningful again... One Nation under God, INDIVISIBLE, with liberty and justice for all. P.S. This is not me vs. anyone. This is me building a team to unify our nation.
