We're proud to share that we, in partnership with Waterford City & County Council's Climate Action Team, have launched the ScoilAer project—a groundbreaking initiative leveraging our STRIAD:AIR technology. Supported by €20,000 in funding through the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme and its IMPETUS initiative, this project equips over 1,000 students from De La Salle College and Waterpark College with the tools and knowledge to map safer, healthier walking routes to school while reducing pollution exposure. Dr. Rachel Finn, Head of Irish Operations, highlighted the students’ excitement: "Combining environmental readings with advanced analytics really opened their eyes to how AI can have positive impacts on climate action and community wellbeing." Happy International Families Day to all from everyone at the Aviation Services Research Centre (ASRC). The 2024 International Day of Families aims to raise awareness of how climate change impacts families and the role families can play in climate action. Through family and community initiatives, we can foster climate action with education, access to information, training and community participation. Empowering families through education, changing consumption habits, and advocacy is critical for meaningful and effective climate action. Families pass values across generations, so instilling sustainable habits and climate awareness in families from an early age is important. Integrating circular economy principles into early childhood education can help build a sustainable economic model based on minimizing waste and regenerating natural resources. Families as consumers and advocates can drive the transition to a circular economy. #research #development #innovation #technology #InternationalFamiliesDay

Building more sustainable and equitable cities requires collaborative action. The living lab concept – a method of co-development among public and private actors, researchers, and civil society – can be a helpful tool to achieve these goals. Learn how to develop and implement a living lab, including stakeholder engagement and coalition building, with "Transformative Living Labs in Urban Climate Action and Transportation Planning," an online course from the MIT Energy Initiative. Starts July 16! Learn more and enroll at https://bit.ly/4eK8xBW #ClimateAction #UrbanPlanning #TransportationPlanning #OnlineCourses

This is a great short talk on climate change and oceans. Brad Ack does a great job discussing the ideas we need think about, learn about, and act upon. He gives a little glimpse of an embryonic idea called Arctic Ice Preservation. Ocean Visions will be releasing a pathways report on this soon. Hopefully it's soon enough. The first question I asked ChatGPT was to determine the value of the free cooling service the Arctic provides. It's trillions of dollars per year. If CO2 has a price... than so does albedo management. We need a better metric than CO2 to enable apples to apples comparisons.
In this inspiring TEDxBoston talk, CEO of Ocean Visions, Brad Ack outlines a new agenda for ocean-climate restoration. Ocean Visions is advancing a new agenda for the ocean, focused on directly addressing the greatest cause of harm – greenhouse gas pollution that is driving existential threats to the ocean. Brad Ack has 35 years of experience working at the intersection of science, policy, and environmental innovation, focused on the preservation of nature and a living world. Ocean Visions works across sectors and disciplines to unlock new intellectual and financial resources to source, develop, and scale cutting-edge innovation to address the ocean-climate crisis. #TEDx #TED #ClimateSolutions #OceanHealth

I am delighted to share that I have won the Ministry of Environmental Protection’s scholarship for excellent researchers for the next four years for my research on urban climate experiments. This is yet another strong vote of confidence in cities' potential to play a crucial role in addressing and adapting to climate change as pioneers, as forerunners who can apply innovative, creative, and ground-breaking solutions and pave the way for others to adopt them. Now- let’s get back to research! #UrbanClimatePolicy #UrbanClimateExperiments

Wouldn’t it be great if there was an annual climate literacy festival initiative with supporting budget for regionally distributed events… like other initiatives that are supported across the country with funding rolled out through the local authorities education and training boards - given the urgency we need to share information accessibly and act now. Given SMARTlab Skelligs and Future Focus TwentyOneC research and experience this is a critical need. Awareness of the reality is clearly not understood and seen as an add on or just another thing to do that’s not a priority.
