Happy International Families Day to all from everyone at the Aviation Services Research Centre (ASRC). The 2024 International Day of Families aims to raise awareness of how climate change impacts families and the role families can play in climate action. Through family and community initiatives, we can foster climate action with education, access to information, training and community participation. Empowering families through education, changing consumption habits, and advocacy is critical for meaningful and effective climate action. Families pass values across generations, so instilling sustainable habits and climate awareness in families from an early age is important. Integrating circular economy principles into early childhood education can help build a sustainable economic model based on minimizing waste and regenerating natural resources. Families as consumers and advocates can drive the transition to a circular economy. #research #development #innovation #technology #InternationalFamiliesDay

This is a great short talk on climate change and oceans. Brad Ack does a great job discussing the ideas we need think about, learn about, and act upon. He gives a little glimpse of an embryonic idea called Arctic Ice Preservation. Ocean Visions will be releasing a pathways report on this soon. Hopefully it's soon enough. The first question I asked ChatGPT was to determine the value of the free cooling service the Arctic provides. It's trillions of dollars per year. If CO2 has a price... than so does albedo management. We need a better metric than CO2 to enable apples to apples comparisons.

I am delighted to share that I have won the Ministry of Environmental Protection’s scholarship for excellent researchers for the next four years for my research on urban climate experiments. This is yet another strong vote of confidence in cities' potential to play a crucial role in addressing and adapting to climate change as pioneers, as forerunners who can apply innovative, creative, and ground-breaking solutions and pave the way for others to adopt them. Awareness of the reality is clearly not understood and seen as an add on or just another thing to do that’s not a priority. Researchers on the SHINE #NationalChallengeFund project are developing a sensor that can be installed in social houses to monitor air quality and help prevent mould.
