My opinion article on the importance of digital Industrial Ecosystems to accelerate the growth of the manufacturing in new geographies like India & USA especially in emerging sectors like Solar, Semiconductor, Green Hydrogen and Li-Ion. A well proven circular technology, widely available in Europe (+400TWh potential), which can be blended directly within European Natural Gas networks, helping to avoid methane leakage 5x more dangerous to the environment than CO2. Interesting fact, 391TWh of biogas production are equivalent to the 2030 target of having 55 bcm of natural gas replacement, knowing that Germany consumed 73,9 bcm in 2022, in a decreasing trend due to price volatility and advent of other renewable energies.
In February 2023, we announced our intention to reach 10 TWh of #biomethane production capacity in #Europe by 2030, a renewable, local and sovereign energy source. 👉🏼 With today's announcement of the acquisition of two plants in the Netherlands for a total of 137 GWh, we have now passed the 1 TWh milestone for annual biomethane production capacity in Europe! 👏🏼 Well done to the teams of ENGIE's Renewable Gases Europe teams for their hard work and determination which contribute to the decarbonization of the European economy! cc Camille Bonenfant

Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) is a game-changer in the industry, and bp's Archaea Energy is leading the charge as the largest producer in North America. Our Shawnee, KS plant, opened earlier this year, showcases their modular design approach (see picture). The growth trend in RNG is impressive, with Energy Vision's latest assessment projecting a substantial increase in production facilities by the end of 2023. Currently, there are 542 facilities identified, with 305 operational, 126 under construction, and 111 in the planning stages, marking a remarkable 33.8% growth over the past two years. These operational RNG facilities have the potential to displace nearly 843 million gallons of diesel fuel annually, powering over 96,900 refuse trucks – more than half of the total on US roads. This substantial increase in RNG production capacity, with 237 more projects in the pipeline, signifies ongoing rapid expansion. The surge in RNG production not only drives industry growth but also plays a vital role in reducing methane emissions. By capturing methane biogases from organic waste, RNG produced from sources like food waste or farm manure is proven to be net carbon-negative over its lifecycle, contributing significantly to a sustainable energy future.
