At Farcana, we follow a general hiring plan with specific search criteria: sci-fi, stylization, PC projects, and visuals (environments, characters, weapons, and mechanisms). We exclude people working on casual projects, fantasy or realism, as our style is bright, concise and without excess. We also have game references, and ideally artists should work in styles close to those, though I won't go into specifics. First, we look for people through portfolios on ArtStation, trying to review portfolios from people in countries with similar time zones to ours to avoid communication problems. Then we check each profile on LinkedIn or other social networks, looking at the candidate's work experience and the companies they have worked for. We also take the reverse approach, looking for companies similar to or in competition with ours, finding artists through their LinkedIn pages and reviewing their portfolios. Once we have a pool of 20-30 candidates, we send their portfolios to our art director for review to ensure they match our style and level of work. The art director selects the top 5-6 candidates, and the recruiters conduct HR interviews. During these interviews, we introduce the company, its history, projects, team, culture, the position, and the responsibilities. We also discuss working conditions, salary expectations and other technical matters. Usually, we give candidates a test assignment of 8-10 hours to be completed within 5 working days. In most cases, 2-3 out of 6 candidates successfully complete the test assignment. It's important for candidates to be able to clearly follow instructions, understand the task, and match the style. Skills in palette management (clean or dirty colors), taste, detailing, working with references, etc. are also important. In addition, candidates must demonstrate all stages of their work to assess their understanding of the concept development pipeline. Many candidates simply misunderstand the test assignment or fail to deliver what we ask for, which is a clear sign of disqualification. Technical skills can be improved, but the ability to listen and understand the tasks is essential and sometimes irreparable. Occasionally, candidates will deliberately deviate by saying, "I'm an artist, this is how I see it," which, while respected, may not fit within the framework of our game production system with its established style and narrative. The final stage is a technical interview, where the candidate demonstrates all their skills and abilities, answers complex questions, and explains how they can solve various cases. Of course, it's crucial that candidates are enthusiastic and motivated to participate in the project. By the way, we have an open position for a Senior Environmental Concept Artist https://lnkd.in/dvX3W35s Did you find my article helpful? Write in the comments!

A week ago, I applied to WB Sports Sialkot and was called for an interview by an executive chief Hassan Waseem. When I asked for job details, I was told it was an office role related to computer work. On the day of the interview, everything went smoothly as the HR manager reviewed my CV and portfolio. He mentioned that even though I come from a textile background, I could be useful as a graphic designer and he was impressed with my work. When asked about salary expectations, I said 60,000+ based on my fresh perspective, creativity and industry standards. He paused and said that was too much since other employees were hired for 35,000 and 40,000, but he would discuss it with the manager. The next day, I was rejected because they hired someone for 20,000 PKR. I don't understand that in today's world how can you give such a low salary and expect the employee to give you 100% and manage to live in that salary.I was shocked at how companies fool innocent people in need of money not realizing their worth. It’s competitive to keep your designs up to standard, yet some companies still fail to appreciate the true value of designers. These kind of companies are a real shame. Also I am not being able to mention the executive chief, so you can go and search his profile on LinkedIn. #hr #wbsports #famcoindustries #sialkot #companies #designers

#WEAREHIRING 😜 Ever feel like you're auditioning for "Fabric Quiz Master" instead of a Fashion Designer role during interviews? 🧵🎤 Interviewer: *Shows 3 random fabrics* "Quick, what's the composition, GSM, and name of each?" Me: "Um... am I applying for a design role or a fabric manufacturing position?" Don't get me wrong, knowing fabric basics is crucial, but expecting us to identify every fabric by touch is like asking a chef to name every ingredient in a dish just by tasting it once! And let's talk about the bias in hiring. It seems like 90-95% of companies prefer NIFT/Pearl/NID graduates, and 70-80% lean towards female candidates. Can we focus on skills and creativity rather than where someone studied or their gender? Let's make fashion about innovation, creativity, and inclusivity. After all, great design comes from diverse minds! #FashionDesign #JobInterviews #CreativeTalent #DesignDiversity

Hiring panels should be held accountable for ghosting candidates and unprofessional hiring practices. I once interviewed with a museum I admired and shared how it inspired my career path. I sent a prompt thank-you email, explaining why I’d be a great fit—yet I never received a response, not even an automated rejection. While I could have sent another follow-up, closure is a shared responsibility. For those involved in hiring, even a brief rejection email can go a long way. If responding to candidates feels challenging, it may be worth reconsidering the team’s approach to hiring.

👻 Dear Museum Hiring Manager, Know what is scarier than a ghost? Museums that GHOST their job candidates! It’s already a terrifying experience to put yourself out there during the application process plus the time it takes to apply. Don’t trick us: give us a treat with closure at least! Sincerely, Museum Job Seekers Anything I'm missing? Share your ideas here (they may make it on a future post!): https://lnkd.in/e927zgDq

I've also worn a lot of hats professionally and it was something I was for years not bold to talk about, especially online. Somehow, generalists get a bad rap and most of us end up embrace specialization, which boxes us. You'll find that most generalists or those who would wish to diversify don't do that openly. When I started toxicworkspaces.com, it didn't mean that I stopped being multi passionate about my skills as a communications advisor or digital democracy. I had to boldly come to terms with the fact that I'm all that and more. I had to ask myself if I am more attractive to the market if I know “a bit of everything” or as a specialised professional and I concluded that I'll WING whatever I want, of course with a plan. In 2024, I promised ME that I'll do what lights me up and when I look back at my journey, I can say it's also how I arrived where I am today. When I separated my personal brand from my business brand (Toxic Work Spaces) I felt a relief because now on my personal profiles, I can create content and contribute to topics I'm well conversant with or I'm passionate about without feeling guilty. At the end of the day to paraphrase Q.Tarantino "I write content and share things I'm passionate about for ME. Everyone else is invited." Now that you are here, have you won a lot of hats in your career? Are you confident in switching the hats? Tell me about it and post was inspired by Ben Burns 👇 #career #professionaldevelopment #generalist
I've worn a lot of hats (and uniforms) in my career. Here's a list of them all, in order: - Paper Boy (newspapers) - Busboy - Target Team Member - Recording Studio Assistant - Food Server/Expediter - Stable Hand (Horses) - Camp Counselor - Lifeguard - Crawlspace Waterproofer - Radio DJ - Magazine Ad Sales - Sub sandwich maker - Design Intern - Production Assistant (ESPN) - Jr. Designer - Sr. Designer - Police Officer - Specialist (Army NG/MP) - Sergeant (Army NG/MP) - Narcotics Agent - Freelance Designer - Art Director - Founder (Design Studio) - Digital Creative Director - Chief Operating Officer - Author? I tell people all the time (especially inside Accelerator) that having a diversified background is a good thing. It's a strength, not a weakness. Looking back, I would have never imagined that my journey would have wound through so many twists and turns and bumps and bruises. I never could have planned this path... But it's how I arrived where I am today. And for that I'm grateful. What about you? What unlikely job titles have you worn?
