We are pleased to highlight FEPS Policy Brief, developed in partnership with CeSPI , FRIEDRICH EBERT STIFTUNG ITALY, Fondation Jean-Jaurès 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 by Sabina de Silva e Lada Vetrini The European Political Community (EPC) has been established to create ‘strategic intimacy’ among European countries, at a time when Russian aggression against Ukraine demanded a show of unity and geopolitical resolve. Its lack of standing structures, institutions, budget and even final declarations should be taken as added value and not as a liability. Indeed, the EPC should not be considered as a loose replica of the EU, or as a waiting room for EU aspiring members. https://lnkd.in/dksAHKnF

While all eyes are on the expanding conflict in the #MiddleEast, disruptions and #economicwarfare by #Iran and #Houthis in the #RedSea are having a significant impact on business relations, economic corridors, and #diplomacy among various countries including #CentralAsia, #SouthEastAsia, and the #GCC. In this timely episode with Eldaniz Gusseinov, The Washington Outsider #Report on Coalition Radio discusses these important developments, noting the impact of independent regional solutions on US interests, as US #diplomacy struggles to catch up and US is increasingly written out of the new blocs, arrangements, and agreements. We discuss: - the move towards #freetrade #MoU between #India and #CentralAsia. - how the disruption of #IMEC has propelled New Delhi to seek regional solutions in Central Asia, #Eurasia, and #southeastasia - US loss, #Russia's gain: Moscow's North-South Corridor with #Azerbaijan could be attracting other countries, including #India; additional #energy corridors, too, could bypass US concerns and priority regions in the area. - Why #India signed off on a 10-year Chabahar port maintenance deal with #Iran despite threat of US #sanctions - #India's plans and routes for avoiding #Pakistan territory & threat - How Gulf countries such as #Qatar and #UAE are investing into various #Pakistan projects - Are the planned economic #Pakistan-#Afghanistan corridors practicable in the near future? - What are the #GCC interest in #oilandgas pipelines to #CentralAsia? - #Pakistan vs. #India based alternatives - which side is winning? - How these policies are narrowing the scope of US influence in #trade, #politics, and #security ... and so much more. Don't miss this fascinating discussion! #Kazakhstan #Eurasia #Caucasus #SouthCaucasus #Tajikistan #Uzbekistan #Turkmenistan #Kyrgizstan #economy #MiddleEast #ArabWorld #China #Russia #Turkey #military #security #defense #investments #foreignpolicy #foreignaffairs #diplomacy #geopolitics

Why 9 May matters On 9 May 1950, in what became known as the Schuman Declaration, Robert Schuman gave a landmark speech, in which he announced the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community. The Schuman Declaration set out the basis for the European Union as we know it today. That is why 9 May was chosen as Europe Day, to celebrate the official start of this unique project of peace and solidarity! #EuropeDay More about the Declaration and the man behind it 👉 europa.eu/!6WBQhC

The project “Defending Art: Italy and the International Security of Cultural Heritage” is premised on the assumption that the international protection of CH and its legal and political mechanisms represent relevant entry points to understand broader dynamics of world politics, such as: 📌the changing forms of conflicts and political violence; 📌the changing nature of international interventions and missions, as well as of multilateral instruments; 📌the political use and misuse of transnational identities and collective memories; 📌the relations between the military and the civilians as well as conservation professionals and humanitarian actors. We will study Italy’s model for the promotion of a global cultural heritage governance; investigate its hallmarks (how it has been developed and why according to certain principles and organisational features); and examine the strategies for its integration into Italy’s foreign policy-making and behaviour in international multilateral arenas. Starting from a focused study on the Italian case, we will broaden the analysis to a range of cases encompassing both European and non-European contexts. In order to comparatively review and explain how different states engage with the international protection of endangered CH in third countries, we will consider four cases of recipients of conservation aid/beneficiaries of protection and reconstruction projects deployed by international donors and stakeholders: Afghanistan, Libya, Mali and Ukraine.
