Plus, comparing one event's success to another's is tricky. PHARSAFER, MEDDRA CODING; TRAINING A number of people (mistakenly) think learning to MedDRA code means that they use the MedDRA browser on their safety database to code adverse events, incidents, undesirable effects, etc... WR back out ONG! Equally, some people think that they need to be trained on MedDRA once and then they are trained permanently. WRONG! MedDRA was always intended to be an evolving system that would change over time and require the coders who use it to evolve in the same way to develop best practice in the way to use MedDRA correctly and effectively. If experienced PV persons (2 - 5 years +) want to join our Company they must undergo a PV test and MedDRA coding test BEFORE interview. Many candidates back out at this stage. Of those candidates that take both tests over 70% fail both tests with the MedDRA tests being the worst of the two. These are experienced coders (apparently) coding ADRs daily. The problem is poor coding leads to split and hidden signals when it comes to data analysis and so all coders need to be trained every months with the issue of the new 'Points To Consider' document from the MSSO to ensure best practice coding to aid signal analysis and ultimately information as presented in the approved labelling for products or updates in the Investigator Brochure. As an auditor (GCP; PV) this is seen commonly that MedDRA training is not kept up to date. Something to check with your CRO. Did you know that LLMs are very sensitive to small changes in the prompt? Changing the number of examples (aka “n-shot”), or even the order of those examples can change the outcome of a benchmark enough to change which model is considered the best! I had the amazing opportunity to work with the Hugging Face 🤗 Leadboards and Evals Research team’s Clémentine Fourrier to see if sturcutured generation with .txt ‘s Outlines would improve the consistency. Early evidence is very promising! In the attached image we can see a dramatic decrease in variance across the number of shots leading to a consistent declaration of the winner between the two models! See the full post in the comments for more details! It’s remarkable the number of areas we’re finding structured generation a major benefit when working with LLMs.
