Where did the time go?! Don't worry, HermitCrab readers - the daily writing continued during our time away dealing with life issues. We will pick up where we left off, and post two classes daily until we get caught up. We should complete our "30 Days of HermitCrab" content by the end of next week (November 8), but more content is already planned, so we could end up with 40 Days of HermitCrab before we are done! Today's Class: Day 15: Community Revitalization, focuses on how reshoring can revive small towns & communities. We provide a real world recent example inside of HermitCrab country - Lake City, SC. We then look at the history of Mill Towns and their collapse. The paper concludes with the 5 Key Community Benefits of Reshoring. It's a shorter-than-normal but interesting read!

Regen Farmers Mutual has completed 4 landscape impact programs with funding by the NSW Government. 3 of 4 of these landscapes generated transactions that we are excited to continue (Murray Inland Delta, Headwater Custodians and STAR Project). 1 of the 4 did not - the Northern Rivers of NSW - however, we shared our lessons learned today with the Northern Rivers community. Some take aways: * The ACCU Scheme wasn't designed with the Northern Rivers landscape in mind. It could be said it wasn't designed for mass adoption. * There are thresholds to aggregation- even when pooling land across multiple farms to make a project. Assuming a $75 ACCU price, a 20Ha project in the Northern Rivers struggles to pay for fences over 25 years, let alone provide an economic incentive to make such a change / enter into such a transaction. * There are non ACCU Scheme environmental services identified like leaky weirs, contours, revegetation etc that are flood mitigators, Nature Positive and have a focus on biodiversity and hydrology (ie farmer-friendly) but these markets suffer from a lack of clarity, maturity and identified buyers. * There is *hope* that the Nature Repair Market will be designed in such a way that Northern Rivers farmers can participate and *fear* that just like the ACCU Scheme the Nature Repair Market, might be inaccessible to farmers. * There is plenty of bright people doing / about to do amazing things in the Northern Rivers with funding from diverse sources. These groups can build on the lessons learned by the working team of Gavin Tinning, Tanya Jobling, Deanna Fernance and Joe Leven https://lnkd.in/e2v_rUh4 #landscapeimpact

🌳 We give away hundreds of thousands of free tree packs to schools and communities every year. 💚 Why? Because we want to make sure everybody in the UK has a chance to plant a tree. And we believe that everyone deserves equal access to trees and the benefits of green spaces - this is what we call tree equity. These free trees make a huge difference to people and their communities. They're generously funded by our lead partners Sainsbury's, Lloyds Banking Group, OVO, Bank of Scotland and Sofology. 📹Watch our film and see the impact of free trees: https://lnkd.in/g_9benGj Meet the students and teachers of Charborough Road Primary School in Filton, a few miles north of Bristol. Current tree canopy cover there is 9%, making it the lowest-scoring LSOA in South Gloucestershire with a Tree Equity score of just 57. Anything below 70 out of 100 is a priority area for increasing tree canopy cover. The school is making big changes to their school spaces thanks to our free tree packs. It's no secret that woods and trees are good for people's health and wellbeing, particularly in our towns and cities. But urban trees and woods aren't distributed equally, and the communities that could most benefit are losing out. Our Tree Equity Score tool can help identify the areas in greatest need. 🔎 Find out more about tree equity: https://lnkd.in/eXxeuxCi 🏫 If you know a school or community group that could benefit from free trees, particularly if their tree equity score is low, share this link with them to APPLY NOW: https://lnkd.in/gQgwUf7 🌱 Successful applications received by end August 2024 will receive their trees ready for planting season in November 2024. #freetrees #treepacks #WoodlandTrustPartnerships #treeequity

Overall funding for Indigenous Peoples and local communities’ tenure and forest guardianship has increased by 36% since 2020, with 72% of the increase driven by the IPLC Forest Tenure Pledge. IP- and LC-led funding mechanisms can ensure that more of this funding is channeled to communities’ own local organizations! The Rights and Resources Initiative’s IP- and LC-led funding mechanism, the Community Land Rights and Conservation Finance Initiative (CLARIFI), represents the next generation of an Indigenous-led global movement to secure rights and safeguard nature. By supporting the self-determined priorities of local peoples, CLARIFI ensures that they have agency in shaping their own future. #ThePledgeWeWant Learn more here → clarifirights.org
