What is #RCAR? RCAR is an international association of automotive research centres, owned or operated by insurers, dedicated to repairability and safety, making sure, that mobility is safe, sustainable and affordable. AZT Automotive GmbH is one of the founding members. On the annually RCAR conference we are discussing about repairability, claims costs, sustainable repairs, battery recycling, safety and other topics as well as the corresponding measures. I shared AZTs thoughts about “Safety in Urban Mobility”, especially the interaction of vans and trucks with vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists. Around 50% of all accidents between trucks and vulnerable road users could be addressed if trucks would have been equipped with active blind spot warning systems as well as direct vision. Even though we are appreciating the improvement trought General Safety Regulation 2, safety systems must go above and beyond legislational regulations, like #EuroNCAP is pushing for safer trucks. 🚨 Euro NCAP releases the first Truck Safe programme test protocols 🚨 Today, Euro NCAP unveils the test protocols that will support the framework for its new Truck Safe rating scheme and lead the way to Zero Crashes on European roads. 🛣️ "Euro NCAP’s new Truck Safe rating scheme, the first of its kind in the sector, will enable a whole range of stakeholders in the freight industry to assess the safety level of trucks. Not only will this deliver enhanced safety for truck drivers, but also protect pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users in European cities. It is not only about safety, as this programme intends to create strategic opportunities for those operators that invest in the safest vehicles. In creating a market for safety, Euro NCAP will encourage manufacturers and suppliers to innovate, further increasing the safety benefits of the scheme as the ratings evolve," states Matthew Avery, Euro NCAP's Director of Strategic Development. 🏙️ Test Protocols are released on Safe Driving and Collision Avoidance. The freight industry often gets a rough ride, but contrary to popular belief many truck manufacturers already go well beyond mandatory minimum standards. For example, higher performance AEB for vehicle collisions, AEB for pedestrian and cyclist collisions, direct vision, camera monitor systems and more. Despite many commercial challenges, there are also plenty of truck operators prepared to pay for the added safety those systems offer. This initiative from Euro NCAP can help to highlight that best practice, spread it across the industry and create the commercial environment that will in future enable manufacturers to invest even more in ever-better safety performance. There has been plenty of challenges along the way, and lots more still to do, but we at Apollo are very pleased that Trucks Euro NCAP trusted us to play our small part to help them get it to this point. We very much look forward to seeing the first scores come in and how it develops from there.

The European consumer test organisation Trucks Euro NCAP has for the first time ever assessed the safety of extra heavy commercial trucks. Volvo Trucks’ best-selling models, the Volvo FH and the Volvo FM, both received the top rating of five stars. ⭐ The SCANIA G-Series earns four stars ⭐ Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks recently published the first set of results from its pioneering TRUCK SAFE assessment programme. The G-Series, from the Swedish SCANIA, takes a very good star rating of four stars. It is also awarded the City Safe, a recognition given to trucks that feature technologies or good design that can prevent accidents that typically happen in cities or urban environments. 🚚 The Scania G-series was tested as a partner version of the R. The vision fundamentals are good and benefit from the lower cab mounting height. Its Collision Avoidance performance is good in most areas, and AEB VRU combined with good vision earns it our City Safe accreditation. Overall, it’s a safe choice in a mix of environments, provided the appropriate options are selected.🛣️ "Well done, Scania, for producing a very safe truck for the highway and the city and being one of three brands to get a coveted CitySafe award.
