July is Disability Pride Month, and as a result many will be using the #DisabilityPride or #DisabilityPrideMonth hashtags to mark their content on social media. Like all images shared on social media, images shared with the #DisabilityPride or #DisabilityPrideMonth hashtags need alt text. Posts about disability and inclusion could come off as hollow and performative if the accompanying images don't have alt text. For those who might ask, "But what if the image is decorative?": As of now, there is now way for people sharing images on social media to mark their images as decorative. Which means that if you don't add alt text to the images you share on social media, the platform will do it for you. On Twitter/X, the default text added is "Image." On Instagram and Facebook, it's A.I.-generated and is about as specific as "May be an image of text" or "May be an image of 1 person." So, with that in mind always add alt text when sharing images on LinkedIn or any other social media platform. LinkedIn makes it possible to add alt text to images, whether these images are on your feed, or embedded in an article. Alt text is always important, but it's especially important if the content is about disabilities and disabled people. #accessibility #a11y #AltText #AccessibilityAwareness #A11yAwareness #SocialMedia

Thank you for sharing such an important point about accessibility and its benefits, not just for people with disabilities, but for society as a whole. The curb cut effect is a perfect example of how inclusive design helps everyone. 🌍♿ The same applies to other essential standards like Adult-Size Changing Tables in restrooms 🚻 and Portable Ramps in buildings 🛠️, which pave the way for inclusivity and accessibility. Voluntary consensus standards like these need to be developed across the support service industry, promoting inclusivity — enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities and society as a whole. I would like to underline the importance of creating the American Support Standards Institute (AMSI) to accelerate the implementation of the ADA and other similar laws, ensuring they work for the benefit of everyone, especially individuals with disabilities, including those with IDD. 🧑🦽👩🦽 #Accessibility #Disability #DisabilityInclusion #InclusiveSociety #Neurodiversity #InclusiveDesign #UniversalDesign #ADA #ASSI #SupportServices #IDD #CurbCutEffect #AMSupportStandards

Just because something is accessible doesn't mean it's inclusive. Just because you did the grocery shopping doesn't mean dinner is ready. There is a step (or two) in-between before you invite people for dinner. A Briar-ism for your Friday. #Disability #DisabilityLeadership #Accessibility #InclusiveDesign #HabitsOfInclusion #MostlyUnlearning
