Water First Exhibition: Innovating for a Sustainable Future 🌍💧 We are excited to announce that from October 16th to 24th, the Water First Exhibition will showcase the winning projects from the 12th edition of the Roca One Day Design Challenge. This competition, held last Saturday at Roca Barcelona Gallery and Roca Madrid Gallery, challenged young designers to create bathroom solutions that optimize water usage, focusing on efficiency and sustainability. 🚿💡 The exhibition, organized in collaboration with Roca, We Are Water Foundation, and Fundació Palo Alto, is part of the Barcelona Design Week 2024 and is open to the public. 💧 Why Water First? Water is an irreplaceable resource, and recent water crises, like the one faced by Barcelona currently, remind us that our mindset to water usage must evolve. These six winning projects offer inspiring solutions to reshape our relationship with water. This year's theme, "Materia Natura", emphasizes sustainability as a guiding principle in design, addressing the interplay between “Materia” (matter) and “Natura” (nature). The term “nature” serves as a poignant reminder of pressing contemporary issues, urging the promotion of projects geared towards increasingly sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions. At the same time, the term “matter” engages in a natural dialogue with design, creative thinking and the aspiration to imagine infinite and plausible transformations. Last month, Helvar w Polsce - HC Center Sp. z o.o. Sp.j. organized the 7th edition of Zaprojektuj Niewidzialne (EN: Design the Invisible) event in collaboration with 4Nature System. 🙌 This series aims to gather architects and designers who prioritize the #sustainability of buildings and the well-being of their users. Have you looked over your garden fence lately? Last week, I had the pleasure of spending a day in Eindhoven at Dutch Design Week. While enjoying the iconic stroopwafels, I was reminded of some advice I heard back in my university days: "Keep looking over the garden fence." It's so easy to get caught up in our own routines and surroundings. But for designers, whose role is to align solutions with real-world problems, it's crucial to stay curious—exploring what’s happening beyond our own "backyard". By exposing ourselves to different industries, crafts, cultures, and countries, we open the door to fresh perspectives and insights. It’s this cross-pollination of ideas that often sparks the most innovative thinking. Whether it’s a design approach from another discipline or a cultural tradition that shifts our viewpoint, these experiences push us to question assumptions, experiment with new methods, and ultimately create more impactful solutions. Design is a team sport, and my visit was a refreshing reminder of just how vital collaboration and openness are. It’s about finding inspiration, learning from others, and continuously expanding our perspectives. Workshop at Dutch Design Week as part of Isola Design Group titled 'PLACE IDENTITY through Shape, Shade & Spirit will be hosted by Ibrahim Beqiri We’ll talk about how cities tell their stories through shapes, colors, and materials, helping participants discover what gives a place its spirit and how to interpret it! ........ This one-hour interactive workshop, "Place Identity through Shape, Shade, and Spirit" guides participants in discovering the unique essence of a place and translating it into architectural and design concepts. The workshop begins with an exploration of how shapes, shades, and the intangible spirit of a space contribute to defining its identity. The session will start with a 15-minute presentation outlining methods to analyze and uncover the core identity of a space. Participants will then spend 30 minutes actively searching for STRIJP-S Eindhoven, analyzing its physical characteristics and emotional or historical context. This exploration is designed to help participants understand how these elements can be interpreted and abstracted into design concepts. In the final 15 minutes, participants will create mood boards to visually represent the identity of the STRIJP-S. These mood boards will be presented to the group, providing an opportunity to discuss how the interplay of shape, shade, and spirit can lead to a deeper understanding of space identity.
