The days of walled garden social media platforms is over. Far too many people rely on their social media followings to earn a living, and can't continue to put their livelihood at risk of shadow banning, de-platforming, etc. And too many people rely on social media to understand what's going on in the world, beyond the mainstream media filter. What if there was a social media protocol that was resistant to censorship, shadow banning, and algorithms that do things like prey on your emotions or promote high profile accounts over every day users? What if you had a variety of apps with various features and designs to choose from, and you could move seamlessly from one to another and take your content and followers with you, wherever you go, eliminating the risk of shadow bans or de-platforming? And what if this social media protocol had native payments, enabling people to send you micropayments, instead of just likes, and enabling all kinds of value for value exchange without the lengthy process or associated risk of connecting bank account? If any of that sounds intriguing to you, I have good news: That social media protocol exists and it's called nostr. It's decentralized, which means the content can't be gated, de-platformed, censored, etc. There are multiple apps (called clients) that run on nostr, which you can download to your phone or computer. No matter which one you choose or how many you download to test out, all of your followers, all of your content, and all of the people you follow are accessible from any of them at all times. In addition to liking posts (called 'notes' on nostr), people often 'zap' posts, which means that they tip micropayments to you via the bitcoin lightning network. And my favorite thing about nostr is that, in spite of its censorship resistance, the content in my feed is noticeably more positive, energizing, and fun than the likes of twitter, facebook, etc. with their algorithms that prey on fear, anger, and disagreement to drive engagement. Not only is the nostr protocol and client ecosystem the next evolution of social media, but I believe it's the next evolution of the internet as we know it. It's a simple note-taking app with daily journals where you can tag people, projects, meetings, technologies, anything you think is important with a simple #x or [[multi-word x]]. The next time you're asked about x, click on the link in the sidebar and you can see every note you ever tagged with x on its own page. If you don't have a photographic memory but are asked to recall detailed information at a minute's notice, give it a try! Oh it's also free and works entirely offline.

"what is oAuth2" - OAuth 2.0 is an open standard for authorization that allows you to grant access to your account or data to third-party applications, without having to share your password. Instead of logging in with your username and password, you can log in with your existing account on a service like Google, Facebook, or Twitter, and then grant the third-party app permission to access your data on that service. OAuth is often used for authorizing access to email services, social media accounts, and other types of APIs.
