How do we change the narrative on suicide? One way is to talk about it. Whispering about it is not the same as talking about it. We have to learn how better to support survivors of suicide and make sure adequate support is available for the people who need it the most. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among teens and young adults. 75-80% of suicide deaths are men. It’s staggering statistic and we all can do better by checking in on our family members, our children, friends, co-workers and especially the men in your life. At times of crisis or loss, it’s even more important to sit with that person and let them know they are important to you. Today is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. Losing my Dad to suicide when I was 13 is a life long loss that is still unfolding. Educate yourself on the signs to be on the look out for and find ways to support each other. See the link in my profile if you’re interested in donating to my Movember campaign to raise funds for suicide prevention programs among men. #mentalhealth #suicideprevention

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, with the new triennial theme: 'Changing The Narrative on Suicide'. This theme focuses on raising awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides. Changing the narrative on suicide means reshaping how we approach this complex issue and shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support. Whether it’s a colleague, a friend or a loved one, let's all take a moment today to reach out and listen. #startheconversation Here are some ways we can help: - Listen without judgement - sometimes the greatest help we can offer is to simply listen. - Be kind to yourself and others - small acts of kindness are impactful. - Share resources - encourage others to seek professional support when needed. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. Please reach out. Charities such as Samaritans offer 24/7 helplines, find out more information below: https://lnkd.in/dqaUFSXB #SuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealth #SRCInfrastructure

🌟 Taking a Stand Against Suicide: Join Me in the CALM Campaign!🌟 In June, I'll be participating in the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a vital initiative dedicated to preventing suicide and improving mental health in the UK. Here's why this cause matters to me! 🌼 The Reality: Every 90 minutes, someone in the UK takes their own life. That's a staggering statistic, and it's time to change it. 🏃♂️ 90 Miles for 90 Lives: Along with thousands of others, I'll be walking, running, and maybe even hopping 90 miles throughout June. Our goal? To raise both awareness and funds for suicide prevention. 🤝 Why I'm Involved: Suicide touches so many lives directly or indirectly. Whether it's a friend, family member, or even our own struggles, we've all been affected. Additionally, 1 in 4 people experience negative thoughts at some point in their lives. It's time to show our support and make a difference. 👟 Get Involved: You can join me by lacing up your own walking boots! Register your fundraiser at https://lnkd.in/e22r65Ra be part of this incredible movement. 💙 Donate: If you're unable to participate, consider making a donation. Every penny counts! Head over to my fundraiser at https://lnkd.in/edb6pvj7 to give what you can. 🙏 Spread the Word! Share this amazing campaign with your network. Together, we can create a ripple effect of compassion and hope. ❤️ Thank you for reading, and let's stand united against suicide! 🌟 #CALM #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthAwareness

LAST ORDERS.......AT THE FINISHING LINE So, I ran (by which I mean "jogged and hobbled") the Morley 10k on Sunday 6th October, in support of PAPYRUS. And now I ache in places where I didn't even know I had places !! You may be aware that I'm trying to raise funds for an important charity which tries to prevent young suicide. And when suicide is the biggest killer of under 35s, you know how important their work is. Just in case you missed my earlier posts, in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day 2024 ( #WSPD24 ), once again, I am hoping to raise funds for #PAPYRUS a charity that helps young people with suicidal thoughts. World Suicide Prevention Day is an opportunity for people and organisations across the world to make a commitment to preventing suicide. It reminds us that we all have a role to play in preventing suicide, and that our actions, however big or small, can provide hope to those who are struggling. This year’s theme of ‘changing the narrative on suicide’ recognises that we need to transform the way we understand suicide, and the way we speak about it. We need to approach conversations around suicide with openness, empathy, and a supportive attitude. We need to equip communities to support one another, and we need to advocate for suicide prevention to be on the agenda. We need to tell a different story about suicide: it isn’t a personal crisis for someone to solve all on their own. We should all be in this together to try to save young lives. I completed the Morley 10k on Sunday 6th October in support of #PAPYRUS . If you can afford to help and want to help, the Just Giving page is below: https://lnkd.in/eFSU2j64
