For #philanthropists, beyond the changes in tax rates and rules (but remembering that Gift Aid and other reliefs on donations remain), it's worth noting that according to the #Budget document the UK government is proposing to develop a #socialimpact investment vehicle. This will bring together socially motivated investors, the #thirdsector and government to tackle complex social problems. Helpful, but we need to thread this and other ideas together to frame the national strategy on #philanthropy - it will require all of us in civic society, in business, in government, to begin that process.

🌍 The Supreme Court's June 6, 2024 ruling indicated that despite efforts to reform the BOX 3 system under the Recovery Act introduced in March 2023, the Supreme Court still identified shortcomings in the newly introduced law. The Court highlighted persistent disparities in how returns on different asset classes, particularly investments, were assessed for tax purposes. The June 6 decision necessitates adjustments to tax assessments, ensuring taxation aligns with taxpayers' actual earnings on assets. Taxpayers must now demonstrate if their actual returns are lower than the flat-rate returns used, potentially offering a tax advantage but also requiring careful documentation. Implementing these changes may pose complexities in accurately determining actual returns, reflecting the evolving landscape of tax law and human rights in Europe.
