Our UK Managing Director for Advisory, and Chairman of the British Safety Council, Peter McGettrick, spoke to New Civil Engineer about the 50th anniversary of the Health and Safety at Work Act, reflecting on its phenomenal achievements in workplace safety and discussing its continued relevance today. Read the article: https://bit.ly/3WDqhqf The 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act serves to ensure the health, safety and well-being of employees and has led to an 80 percent reduction in workplace deaths and significantly fewer injuries. However, Peter highlights the importance of recognising the ongoing journey towards making our work environments safe and explores how the evolving definitions related to ‘health and safety’ influence the expectations regarding workplace safety. Peter says: “When it comes to updating our approach to health and safety, employers must take the lead. While the legislative environment remains largely solid, the needs of the modern workforce have dramatically changed.
