At the heart of every industry is youth, ideas, innovation & a hunger to succeed, just like those who have gone before us. Let me take you back, it’s 2018, I notice an event being held at Fox Group (Moving and Storage) Ltd in Cardiff and I sign up… ‘what’s all this young movers about, I’ll go see for myself’ I booked late and stayed in a hotel on my own, I arrived on my own, a nervous wreck and met Ian Studd for the very first time. At the time, I was learning a sales role in removals. 2019 comes and I pester Dan Braddock about being part of this new up and coming council. We organise the event in Brighton, I really step into the role and make life long friendships with my peers such as Michael Dunbar, Danny Flannery, Mairead Almandras & many many more. 2020 - well the C word happens and we are locked down, it could spell the end of the group. Bit fear not, we have BIG plans. 2021 - restrictions are lifted and we host a bigger and better event in Belfast, the group is booking and the future of the removals and storage industry could not be stronger, we head over to McGimpsey Brothers Removals Limited where I make even more friends for life. I’m growing in confidence and have goals I want to meet, all supported by knowledge I’m picking up at the Young Mover events. 2022 - Cambridge, due to a family emergency I miss this year but the group and its members continue to grow. The fastest The British Association of Removers council growth. 2023 - Liverpool, I’ve now stepped down from the council after 4 years, time for fresh eyes, ears & ideas but attend another brilliant event, this time hosted by new council members such as Holly Oven & Lisa Carey Fast forward to today, I’m speaking at events, growing my company, being asked for mentorship, and heavily involved at the top tables of our industry with one more step to go! 2024 - Bristol, I’m coming. From a shy, reserved, sitting on the back hungover newcomer in 2018, it’s been quite the journey. And I can honestly say I can attribute a lot of my personal growth to attending these events, sharing problems, chatting about ideas and listening intently to people who have been there before. All whilst sinking a few beers, having a dance and smiling and laughing into the small hours of the morning. Business can be many things, leadership can take many forms, but it always starts with getting out of your comfort zone and getting involved if you want to make an impact. The countdown is on 🧠🤝🍻
