Q1 data is in and guess which country topped the #climatetech funding table? 🥁 🇸🇪 Sweden received US$9.9B, roughly a third of the US$30.1B in funding that went into global climate tech last quarter. This was largely due to #gigarounds (US$1B+) for Northvolt and H2 Green Steel. As usual, Europe & the US received the largest slices of the funding pie. Great to see HyNet being given the green light by the UK Government, enabling the infrastructure to produce, transport and store low carbon hydrogen across the North West and North Wales industrial heartlands. Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) portfolio company Cadent Gas Limited is supporting this initiative through repurposing its existing gas pipeline infrastructure to capture and transport low carbon hydrogen to local industries. National Gas, another MAM portfolio company, also has plans underway to support Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) initiatives across Scotland by repurposing its gas network, which will help unlock initiatives like The Acorn Project, a Scottish CCS project driven by Storegga – another British based company Macquarie has invested in. These initiatives could help the UK meet its net zero and clean growth ambitions, while unlocking the decarbonisation of industry.
"Today’s announcement by government is excellent news and serves as a welcome reminder of what can be achieved when public and private sectors work together. We know that by investing in Carbon Capture and Storage as well as the large scale creation of Low Carbon Hydrogen, that industry can be enabled in their efforts to decarbonise. The North West is home to iconic, and innovative businesses, many of whom have been at the forefront of this effort for several years. Today is testament to the hard work and commitment of those colleagues who make up the HyNet consortium. This investment will enable the faster, greener, collective re-industrialisation of the region, allowing UK companies to successfully compete in international low carbon markets and win new business. The Solent Cluster and partners awarded £750k to decarbonise industry 🪙🌍 Almost £750,000 of national funding has been put towards plans to reduce industrial emissions in the Solent. The Solent Cluster joined project partners in a successful bid to the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan competition, run by the government alongside Innovate UK. Partners have also put in their own funding to bring the project total to over £1 million.
