Fire Safety: "Prevention is Better than Cure" As a #FacilitiesManagement professionals, ensuring #workplace safety is our top priority. While colleagues focus on business activities, our responsibility is to protect them. I, an Indian #Navalveteran with 15 years of experience on warships, understand the importance of fire preparedness. Meticulous #training and Daily fire exercises in the Navy make sailors proficient in handling critical situations. In my two decades of corporate experience, I've seen colleagues take fire alarms casually. This complacency can be deadly. Lessons from Experience: Yesterday's incident, like the Pune apartment fire, which I witnessed and acted responsibly by informing emergency number 108, who in turn promptly dispatched Fire Brigade and even ambulance to the spot. I don't claim it was only me who had informed emergency number but there could be other several responsible citizens might have done that even before me. This incident highlights the importance of swift evacuation and action by which couple of kids could survive. For me personally, boy seen in the video though seems minor, demonstrated huge maturity and presence of mind. He not only tried to fought fire but also seems to be protecting another girl. As the fire was in the staircase itself, huge crowd below the apartment and road, many of them were not able to guide them right thing to do. Even some of them were asking to jump out of the balcony. I think it's boy who took timely and right decision or heard right advise using his presence of mind and started getting down to below floor level. He ensured smaller girl is evacuated on priority. Huge thanks and applauds to couple of responsible citizens who put their own life in danger and helped two kids in complementing their right actions. The Rapid Spread of Fire: A Hidden Danger Fire can spread rapidly, causing catastrophic damage and loss of life. Overlooking initial signs can lead to devastating consequences: 1. Fires can double in size every 30 seconds. 2. Flames can spread up to 10 feet per second. 3. Smoke can become toxic in seconds, causing disorientation and asphyxiation. Preventing or curbing fire incidents is crucial. It saves lives, reduces damage, and ensures business continuity. 1. Conduct regular risk assessments 2. Train staff on fire safety and emergency procedures Takeaways: 1. Don't assume alarms are false; evacuate immediately. 2. Smoke causes more casualties than fire; it impairs logical thinking. 3. Evacuate within three minutes to prevent situations from spiralling out of control. During fire incidents, presence of mind is crucial. Panic can lead to chaos, while a clear head ensures: 1. Quick decision-making 2. Minimized damage Action Items: 1. Treat every fire alarm seriously. 2. Evacuate promptly without questioning. By prioritizing prevention, preparedness, and presence of mind, we can minimize the risk of fire incidents and ensure a safe working environment.

The safety of participants at the event should be a priority, which is why it’s important to take care of it in advance. In this post, we’ll discuss important points to consider in advance, such as: 🔹 Risk Assessment: Analyze potential threats such as fire safety, medical emergencies, and public disturbances. Develop a risk classification system to prioritize attention. 🔹 Emergency Planning: Create a detailed plan for unforeseen circumstances including evacuation procedures, first aid, and communication with emergency services. 🔹 Training and Drills: Conduct training sessions with practical scenarios to enhance staff readiness. Ensure all staff understand security procedures and their roles. 🔹 Monitoring and Supervision: Continuously monitor event progress, track guest and staff actions, and use surveillance systems to ensure security. Maintain communication with security and emergency services for prompt response to incidents. At first glance, such measures may seem overly «catastrophic.» However, large-scale events prioritize responsibility for safety above all else, so it’s better to be cautious and follow all the points. #event #safety #riskmanagement #planing

Prioritizing Emergency Response Preparedness: Essential for Security Guards. As security guards, our role extends far beyond routine patrols and surveillance. We are the first line of defence in emergency situations, making it paramount for us to be well-prepared and trained to handle various crisis scenarios. Here's why emergency response preparedness is crucial for security guards: 🔹 Immediate Action in Crisis Situations: During emergencies such as fires, medical incidents, or security breaches, security guards are often the first responders on the scene. Having a solid understanding of emergency procedures allows us to act swiftly and decisively to protect lives and property. 🔹 Ensuring Occupant Safety: Our primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of occupants within the facility. By being well-prepared and trained in emergency response protocols, we can effectively evacuate occupants, provide first aid assistance, and coordinate with emergency responders to mitigate risks. 🔹 Maintaining Calm and Order: In chaotic situations, security guards play a crucial role in maintaining calm and order. Our ability to communicate effectively, follow established procedures, and lead by example can significantly impact the outcome of an emergency situation. 🔹 Minimizing Impact of Crises: Through regular drills and training sessions, security guards can familiarize themselves with emergency response protocols and develop the skills needed to minimize the impact of crises. Preparedness reduces response times, increases efficiency, and ultimately saves lives. 🔹 Building Trust and Confidence: Demonstrating proficiency in emergency response procedures instils trust and confidence in occupants and stakeholders. By prioritizing emergency preparedness, security guards can enhance their credibility and reputation as reliable guardians of safety. Let's commit to prioritizing emergency response preparedness as security guards, ensuring that we are ready to handle any challenge that comes our way. Together, we can make a difference in safeguarding lives and protecting our communities. #EmergencyPreparedness #SecurityGuard #SafetyFirst

“Emergency Response Plan" An emergency response plan is a document that sets out the series of steps organizations will take during a critical event, such as a fire or active shooter threat, to ensure employees’ safety. This establishes guidelines for all reasonably foreseeable workplace emergencies. Emergencies can be identified as medical, fire, bomb threats, chemical spills, severe weather conditions, terrorist attacks etc. An active workplace employee should be able to identify these emergencies rapidly and report them to the appropriate unit for resolution and/ or to mitigate the effect it may have on the employees. In emergency response planning, priority is mainly on the workers and not the assets and machinery. For fire emergencies. 1. First leave the fire scene by the nearest available exit/ route: While leaving or vacating the fire scene raise an alarm or alert people of an existing fire. This is the point where people feel so arrogant. They attempt to put out the fire meanwhile they have not received the required or necessary fire training. Organizations should make it a habit of having in-house training with their employees depending on the industry type. 2. Report to the emergency assembly point. The aim of convergence at the emergency assembly point is to physically have a head count to assert the exact number of workers on site. “Workers, please this is not the time for moving around.” 3. Act as quickly as possible to collect your personal belongings and those of others. Personal belongings are valuable things, but your life is more valuable than these things. In situations like this, I would advise that you should help the physically handicapped and visually impaired people and ignore the property. To my fire fighting agencies or services, what is the maximum time to get to a fire scene if your office has been informed?
