🌊 Why protect the Ocean? So the Ocean continues to protect us! Europe’s Ocean scientists launch advice for governments 🌍 Today leading European Ocean scientists launched Navigating the Future VI (NFVI) today, a publication which provides governments, policymakers and funders with robust, independent scientific advice, focusing on the critical role the Ocean plays in the wider Earth system. 🤝 Navigating the Future VI proposes the marine (natural and social) science research we need to help us address the challenges facing the planet, and with whom we need to collaborate to find solutions. 🍀 It focuses on four main themes: #Ocean and #People, Ocean and #Climate, Ocean and #Freshwater and Ocean and #Biodiversity. 👨👩👧👦 This is a flagship publication of the European Marine Board IVZW, an independent non-governmental advisory body that represents more than 10,000 marine scientists across Europe. NFVI was written by European Ocean scientists representing all EMB Member organisations (at kick off in 2022), spanning a wide range of backgrounds, disciplines and career levels. 🗣️ Join the conversation using #NFVIOcean #NFVIOcean #NavigatingTheFutureVI #OceanScience #MarinePolicy #Sustainability #ClimateAction #EuropeanMarineBoard You can find the publication here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gyGRxEga

Today is a day to celebrate the transformative power of science: World Science Day for Peace and Development, a date established by UNESCO to highlight the crucial role of science in building a fairer and more sustainable future. The purpose of this day is to recognize the fundamental role of science in society and emphasize the importance of engaging the public in discussions on emerging scientific issues. It also aims to underline the relevance of science in our everyday lives. Science is undoubtedly a driving force in our daily existence, influencing everything from our understanding of the world to the solutions we seek for global challenges. This day is also linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, which aim to create a more just, developed, and peaceful world. It highlights the role scientists play in expanding our understanding of the planet we call home and how to make our societies more sustainable. At Evomate, sustainability is not just a value, but a daily practice woven into every stage of our process. Our yerba mate is native, growing under the shade of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, respecting biodiversity and the natural cycle of the ecosystem. We are the first sealed industry in Brazil, investing in research and technologies that promote the development of high-quality yerba mate, minimizing waste and avoiding contamination throughout the entire processing chain. Our commitment to science, innovation, and sustainability is unwavering, reflected in a final product that not only respects the environment but also generates real benefits for the communities around us and for society as a whole. At Evomate, science not only supports but also drives our mission to deliver quality and environmental responsibility for all.

Below a summary of CSERC's engagement with Australia's draft Sustainable Ocean Plan.
C-SERC researcher Prof Michael Fabinyi was pleased to participate in the Ocean Dialogue in Sydney on 10th October as part of the #GlobalNaturePositiveSummit. The Dialogue brought together First Nations people, representatives from all levels of government, ocean industries, researchers, non-government organisations and the community to discuss priorities for Australia's oceans. The day was focused on Australia's draft Sustainable Ocean Plan, which has recently been out for public comment. C-SERC researchers think the Plan sets a good tone, but is light on timelines and metrics, and also fails to centre food as a crucial part of human relations with the sea. See the C-SERC submission on the draft Sustainable Ocean Plan attached. A particular focus for the Ocean Dialogue was discussing how to address the two priority areas of collaboration and knowledge, including how to integrate diverse human interactions with the sea (food, culture, recreation, spirituality, science, tourism, energy, mining, etc) into oceans management.

ePAPHOS AT Digital Ocean Forum 2024 The European Digital Twin of the Ocean will unlock the door to knowledge and its translation into actions: it is a digital co-creation place at the crossroad of different disciplines. Its purpose is to provide Ocean communities, citizens, coastal actors, scientists, and policymakers worldwide, with actionable knowledge and to support them in their daily decisions and planning, to ensure a healthy and sustainable Ocean. The Digital Ocean Forum 2024 will be the occasion to unveil the prototype of the EU DTO and to showcase what the EU DTO, as a Commission public service, can do for the sustainable development of our blue economies and the management of our ocean resources, as well as how it contributes to the implementation of the Green Deal and the UN Decade of Science for Sustainable Development. It will bring together experts, stakeholders, policymakers and interested citizens in the co-design and co-creation of the European Digital Twin of the Ocean. The high-level public event will be preceded by a scientific workshop, to gather further feedback and requirements from key EU and national research projects and initiatives and establish priorities for future developments with a strong user-centric approach.
