Let's talk...water, rivers, recognition, connection and preservation. The mighty Fitzroy River (Martuwarra) is one of the world's most pristine, free flowing river systems. It weaves 733km from the East Kimberley to the coast at King Sound. The Martuwarra supports an abundance if wildlife, including 18 species of fish found nowhere else in the world. It is a critical breeding ground for the crucially endangered sawfish. Side note: 🙋🏽♀️ I have actually seen one of these sawfish poke its nose up out of the flood water. Anyway, life on the river is unpredictable and when it rains this brings the wetlands to life and restores water levels nearby. The well known barramundi and cherabin are food for local people and an essential part of recreational fishing experiences. Have you tried catching a barra without being distracted by beautiful landscapes, wildlife🐊 and waterways? The Martuwarra flows out to the Kimberley coast, the world's most pristine tropical coastline. But remember...a healthy river is essential for a healthy coast.
