In the Philippines, shady scam hubs duly register their business, and get all the licenses, including government IDs for the new identities of fugitives. The latest scam hub raided once operated right under the nose of the President's family in his home province. It also turns out they enlisted a convicted pork barrel scam player for "government relations." This is a story of a corrupted chain, and the limitations of the operative unit that's trying to bring them down. My latest:

In a remote corner of Southeast Asia, the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone resembles a mid-sized Chinese city, adorned with skyscrapers, shopping areas, a casino and an artificial lake. Its purpose, according to Chinese businessman and GTSEZ founder Zhao Wei, is to facilitate development in its host country of Laos, which is home to some of the poorest people in the region. Operating behind the glassy facades, however, is a “multifunctional criminal enterprise,” according to an advisor to the International Crisis Group. Investigators claim gamblers arrived first, followed by drug and human traffickers, and now—since about 2022—crypto scam centers. There’s evidence that Chinese policymakers, who wield enormous influence over Laos, want to see the frauds reined in. But law enforcement agencies can do practically nothing to police it—or have no interest in doing so. A sign of weak law and order in PNG is evident. The PNG Independence Anniversary is meant to be a joyful event for all citizens, but that is not the case in some parts of the country. If independence was truly political, then law and order must be strengthened and respected at all costs, without individuals having to shoulder issues on their own. The government needs to take a more proactive role, especially as the country marks 49 years of political independence. The acts of violence, killings, and individuals taking matters into their own hands should be minimized or, ideally, eradicated. While reports have yet to be aired, I personally believe that the incident mentioned below should not be linked to tribal fighting in Porgera, Enga. Regardless of whether it is related or not, the government must intervene as soon as possible through the appropriate agencies.
