🌱 Driving Towards Clean Air: What India Can Learn from China’s EV Revolution 🌏🚗 With 22 million EVs on the road, China has shown how robust policy-making can transform air quality in cities like Wuhan, Beijing, and Shanghai. India, where air quality remains a pressing issue, could greatly benefit from similar strategies to accelerate EV adoption. 💡 What Made China a Global EV Leader? Since 2008, China has implemented national, provincial, and local policies that include sales mandates, purchase subsidies, tax exemptions, and a strong battery manufacturing ecosystem. By 2023, EVs made up 40% of new vehicle sales in China, and cities like Shenzhen now have a 100% electric bus fleet. China aims for 45% of new vehicle sales to be electric by 2027 and has earmarked 72.34 lakh crore for subsidies (2009–2022). 💡 India’s EV Policy Landscape: Progress & Gaps India’s initiatives, including FAME and Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024, have spurred the adoption of 4.5 million EVs and 16,000 charging stations with government-private sector collaboration. Yet, India’s spend (₹211,000 crore) remains 1/20th of China’s. While states like Delhi lead with forward-looking EV mandates, nationwide targets and state-aligned policies remain limited. 💡 Moving Forward: India’s Path to Green Mobility To achieve EV30@30 goals and deliver noticeable air quality benefits, India must focus on ambitious adoption mandates and localized, city-specific programs, backed by supply-side incentives that encourage manufacturing and affordable EV options. With a unified commitment across national and state levels, India can drive a true green mobility revolution, benefiting both its cities and the planet. 🌍 #IndiaEVRevolution #GreenMobility #EVPolicy #CleanAirIndia #SustainableFuture
