A look at the Up-Skill project with Jens von Axelson of consortium partner MITC - Mälardalen Industrial Technology Center, Sweden! 'Up-Skill: Up-skilling for Industry 5.0 Roll-out' focuses on the integration of #industry50 and human #skills integration for #manufacturing. Industry 5.0 places emphasis on the requirement for efficiency, productivity and return on investment - within the broader context of #sustainability, #resilience and human-centricity - and using #digitalisation and related, emerging #technologies to benefit industry, particularly in terms of sector productivity and robustness, workers and society. In this latest article, Jens provides an insight into both Up-Skill and MITC's current work on the project to develop a ‘do and learn’ #trainingcourse for a company that will have Industry 5.0 objectives as a focus. Self-assessment is an important part of methodology, providing both a necessary thought process for the individual in the company and a means of expressing the company’s core values. This 'start phase' will end with suggestions and an action plan for further development by the company. The Up-Skill partners with MITC are TWI's Anglia Ruskin Innovation Centre (with Anglia Ruskin University) and Joining 4.0 Innovation Centre (with Lancaster University), IRIS Technology, KNEIA SL, Mälardalen University and Università degli Studi di Milano. “Learning to read and embrace complexity is important: choose training courses that focus on the connections between different fields of knowledge rather than mere verticality. That's right, post-disciplinarity is and will be crucial. MITC - Mälardalen Industrial Technology Center (MITC)- partner on the Up-Skill project together with the Anglia Ruskin Innovation Centre (#ARIC: an Anglia Ruskin University-TWI partnership), the Joining 4.0 Innovation Centre (#J4IC: a Lancaster University-TWI partnership and the Università degli Studi di Milano - paid a visit to TWI Cambridge, UK last week for a day of knowledge exchange and information sharing. Funded by #horizoneurope, Up-Skill aims to build a better understanding of how industrial and #manufacturing businesses can leverage value from human and machine integration - investigating the effects on organisations of introducing new, ‘intelligent’ #production systems - how #technologies like #robotics and #artificialintelligence #ai can change working practices, and how personnel subsequently respond to, and interpret, these. The project also includes #ethnography case studies in different industrial and manufacturing environments where ideas can be tested and developed. #366daysofinnovation - Is #innovation a #method, #magic or #mindset ??? Today, I met our Chief Outreach Officer at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and we did a deep dive into the topic. In short: [1] #Method helps: mastering the sequence and balancing act of divergence and convergence in innovation processes is crucial for the effectiveness and efficiency of innovation and value creation. [2] #Magic happens when hard work meets good luck, timing meets demand, and commitment meets opportunities… magic is at the core of great innovations,ä and still, innovation isn‘t pure magic. [3] #Mindset outperforms most other resources, makes people work as magic teams and allows solutions to emerge like miracles out of seemingly hopeless challenges. That‘s why our #FAU #COO, alias Sybille Barth, combines method, magic and mindset to grow incredible teams that create outstanding impact and output and make #FAU the place to be for #innovators worldwide 👏👏👏 Uuups, I almost forgot to mention that our FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg is on the 1st place worldwide, when you look for #innovation in the Times Higher Education #impact ranking … in short: #1innovator 🚀 🚀 🚀 #FAUproud Christoph Heynen Bianca Niemann Lisa Drescher Heike Nowak-Schwerdtfeger Klaus Konrad Tim Klingberg Eike Trost Jana Rosenbusch Janik Wadlinger Sandra Schmitt Nina Bundels Sebastian Engel Dennis Kirpensteijn Benjamin Bauer Prof. Dr. Claudia Lehmann FAU Digital Tech Academy EXISTENCY official EELISA European University

Spot-on start for this year's European Manufacturing Conference organised in Brussels by EIT Manufacturing, European Factories of the Future Research Association (EFFRA) and Manufuture-EU. While the future is prone to substantial opportunities and challenges for EU's #manufacturing sector, we do have the right setting in place to foster the much needed growth. And as always, we need to focus on the ecosystem and not only on the challenge itself: 1) Europe's debated #smartspecialisation strategy proves highly suitable to pave the way to stronger, more connected and adaptive regional innovation ecosystems. This is particularly relevant for developing regions & moderate innovators that are currently building industrial value chains. We are supporting this effort via our Regional Innovation Scheme unit. 2) #CleanTech is flourishing in Europe and can be particularly useful for moderately innovating regions that want to "skip" certain development stages. 3) #Talent development (in manufacturing) via market-oriented universities and highly competent vocational centres of excellence is rapidly catching up. This is particularly demonstrated in #deeptech fields and strategic industrial areas supported by initiatives such as EIT Deep Tech Talent and #Erasmus+ programmes (i.e. Centres of Vocational Excellence, Innovation Alliances). 4) (Manufacturing) Innovation transition to the market and the #scaleup ability of innovators needs to be accelerated, however it is on the right track since Europe is the global leader in #responsible innovation, where #environmental and #social impact are always seen as mainstreamed features of growth. With the recent recommendations to substantially increase the funding for R&D and support impactful research with market value we will see a rapid increase in the speed-to-market. One relevant initiative (amongst many others) consists of the timely EIT HEI Initiative. A lot of work, a lot of bold attempts to succeed and a lot of opportunities ahead for the European Manufacturing sector !
