#FlashbackFriday to the earliest days of the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking. At the time, the national response to human trafficking was still very new. But from the start, co-founders A.J. Alejano-Steele and Amanda Finger believed their contributions to the anti-trafficking field would help uphold human rights. Since 2009, LCHT has had a strong legacy of women in leadership. Led by AJ and Amanda, we’ve been fortunate to welcome staff, interns, volunteers, and Board members who are grounded in feminist values. In fact, the majority of LCHT Board Members throughout our history have been women. Gender identities relate to exploitation; women and girls are often more vulnerable to human trafficking. This International Women’s Day, we are celebrating women like AJ and Amanda who are making a difference for survivors and leading social change! Learn how you can get involved in the anti-trafficking movement: https://lnkd.in/dN7agykj #InternationalWomensDay #WomensRights #HumanRightsLeader #EndTraffickingColorado #EliminateExploitation #EndHumanTrafficking #HumanRights #SocialJustice #HumanTraffickingAwareness #EndExploitation

Men Who Hate Women The first comprehensive undercover look at the terrorist movement no one is talking about. Men Who Hate Women examines the rise of secretive extremist communities who despise women and traces the roots of misogyny across a complex spider web of groups. It includes eye-opening interviews with former members of these communities, the academics studying this movement, and the men fighting back. Women's rights activist Laura Bates wrote this book as someone who has been the target of many hate-fueled misogynistic attacks online. At first, the vitriol seemed to be the work of a small handful of individual men... but over time, the volume and consistency of the attacks hinted at something bigger and more ominous. As Bates went undercover into the corners of the internet, she found an unseen, organized movement of thousands of anonymous men wishing violence (and worse) upon women. In the book, Bates explores: Extreme communities like incels, pick-up artists, MGTOW, Men's Rights Activists and more The hateful, toxic rhetoric used by these groups How this movement connects to other extremist movements like white supremacy How young boys are targeted and slowly drawn in Where this ideology shows up in our everyday lives in mainstream media, our playgrounds, and our government By turns fascinating and horrifying, Men Who Hate Women is a broad, unflinching account of the deep current of loathing toward women and anti-feminism that underpins our society and is a must-read for parents, educators, and anyone who believes in equality for women. Praise for Men Who Hate Women: "Laura Bates is showing us the path to both intimate and global survival."--Gloria Steinem "Well-researched and meticulously documented, Bates's book on the power and danger of masculinity should be required reading for us all."--Library Journal "Men Who Hate Women has the power to spark social change."--Sunday Times https://lnkd.in/gVWAmXfj

Ending Violence Against Women: A Collective Responsibility Violence against women is a pervasive issue that continues to plague our society, affecting millions of lives across the globe. Whether it's domestic abuse, workplace harassment, or sexual violence, the impact on women is devastating and far-reaching. It's crucial to recognize that violence against women is not just a women’s issue; it is a human rights issue. The effects ripple through families, communities, and workplaces, undermining the very fabric of our society. We must: 1. **Speak Up:** Silence perpetuates violence. We all have a role to play in challenging and condemning abusive behavior whenever and wherever it occurs. 2. **Support Survivors:** Provide resources, support, and a safe space for survivors to heal and rebuild their lives. It’s essential to listen, believe, and stand by them. 3. **Promote Equality:** Address the root causes of violence by advocating for gender equality and empowering women at all levels of society—education, employment, leadership, and beyond. It’s time for a collective effort to put an end to this unacceptable violence. Together, we can create a world where every woman feels safe, respected, and valued. #EndViolence #WomensRights #EqualityForAll

Hey besties, April is here, and with it comes a powerful theme that demands our attention: breaking the cycle of harassment. Harassment isn't just a word; it's a reality for far too many individuals. From unwanted advances in public spaces to cyberbullying behind screens, it undermines the safety and dignity of individuals. Harassment prevents women from fully participating in society, whether it's in the work place, public spaces, or online. As Femination, we believe that every individual deserves to live free from fear and intimidation. And that is why throughout this month, we're on a mission to educate, empower, and take action. We'll be exploring the different forms of harassment, shedding light on its root causes, and equipping ourselves with tools to recognize, respond to, and prevent it. Join us on this journey as we share informative resources, and ignite discussions on how we can create environments where harassment has no place. From understanding the legal aspects to learning how to support survivors, we'll cover it all. Together, we are capable of fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and accountability. So do stay tuned as we explore the intersectionality of harassment with gender inequality, and advocate for change!

"We're thinking about starting an employee network for allies" At the end of yesterday's in-person training session for network leaders (thank you to the amazing group!), the subject of allies came up Specifically the inclusion of allies in network meetings And the option to start an employee network for allies / allyship Like many things in DEI.... I do feel there's too much policing when it comes to allyship An example of this is male allyship towards women I'm not sure how we got here But it's become highly contested Where some men can't do right for doing wrong Can men be allies to women? If so, what are the rules? How do we make sure men aren't centred? How do we make sure it's not performative? How do we make sure women aren't silenced? The list of 'objections' and caveats goes on... Cards on the table, I'm not a fan of all types of DEI activism If you know me, you know I'm more MLK Jr than Malcolm X However, I also recognise it takes all sorts to make change And there is much work to do So male allyship might look like this: Men advocating on Menopause Men who speak out about MVAWG* Men normalising #ParentingOutLoud Men driving the discourse on masculinity Men who break the 'bro' code to protect women Men who actively sponsor women in the workplace As long as the intent is there And men are listening and learning I'm here for it *Male Violence Against Women And Girls #Inclusion #Allyship #SupportWomen #MVAWG #MaleAllyship #EndDometicAbuse #LiExperiment

From the community to the conference room! About today: Women Human Rights Defenders capacity building workshop to support prevention of Gender Based Violence, and promote women Leadership. There was so much to take home, but I particularly enjoyed a session on Mental well-being. I have gone through similar sessions several times but it’s one topic I am always keen to listen and take notes, because of how crucial it is in this ever-changing world. Today’s session was particularly catchy as it centered on we participants and linking it to the communities we serve. #Media&Visibility #EVAWG

August symbolizes and emphasizes on the strides we still need to cement in uplifting, empowering and embracing Womxn in their groups and ethnicities. Through our vast Programmes we are given a platform to unlock the voices of all womxn and young girls ensuring that they are vocally aware of their Human Rights. The below video provides a glimpse of not only the social impact but the advances and efforts we make towards ensuring quality, acceptable, accessible health care services for all key populations through the integration of Human Rights. This years theme for Womxn’s Month - it is important for us to be at the forefront towards breaking down barriers that continue to discriminate against, marginalize, and exclude/reject Womxn. Let’s go ‘beyond silence’ towards advocating for inclusivity in all spaces including policy reform that will encompass womxn populations. #beyondsilence #HumanRights #SocialImpact #healthcare #WomensMonth #WomxnEmbracingEquity
This women’s month, we are deliberate in continuing to create an intersectionality engagement platform for Womxn to address the unconscious bias of all women populations in our quest for real inclusivity. Women’s rights are Human Rights, #BeyondSilence #WomxnEmbracingEquity.
