Tyre Stewardship Australia is pleased to share the Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence’s recent submission on the Productivity Commission Inquiry. The document outlines key strategies for slowing, narrowing, and closing resource loops, which align closely with TSA’s goals for a circular economy for tyres in Australia. This submission highlights the importance of regulated product stewardship and producer responsibility across various product lifecycles in advancing Australia’s circular economy objectives – a responsibility which underpins TSA’s mission and vision. Did you know it has been 10 years since Australia's voluntary national product stewardship scheme for tyres was established? With 16 tyre brands now invested in Tyre Stewardship Australia, there are more rubber recycling opportunities opening up across the country than ever before. Through recycling, old tyres are made into products such as flooring, asphalt, mats and pavement. Clean Up Australia would like to see the tyre stewardship scheme made mandatory, with 100% of tyre importers and auto brands contributing – keeping tyres out of landfill and off our streets! Managing end-of-life tyres in Australia is a growing challenge with missed opportunities for valuable material recovery. This space is now being investigated by federal and state Environment Ministers who are looking at options to get on top of the issue. The Motor Trades Association of Australia has provided its views on end-of-life tyres and calls for a comprehensive approach, emphasising that a regulated product stewardship scheme is the most effective approach. We understand Environment Ministers will consider next steps when they meet later this year, including the need for further work to fully assess options for end-of-life tyres, a cost benefit analysis and public consultation. MTAA looks forward to continuing to contribute. This image represents a new way forward in safely transporting fully inflated truck tyres to sites. Think “gas bottle replacement”, that’s how easy and safe this new tyre replenishment system is. If you want to separate your team from handling stored energy on-site, activate the Klevacage and let us manage tyre inflation off-site. As a proud contributor to the Tyre Stewardship Australia Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme, we are also excited that this replenishment system offers a simple reverse logistics pathway for recycling tyres at end of life from remote locations. Add to this the complete removal of plastic wrap and strapping, and zero use of pallets, and we’re significantly reducing on-site waste streams. Safe. Efficient. Environmentally responsible tyre management. #klevacage #getagriptyres #tyrerecycling #wamining #trucktyres #tyrestewardshipaustralia #transport

[FOCUS AFNOR STANDARD 🌐] A partnership with Groupe AFNOR,TC TRANSPORTS and ALIAPUR led to a new standard in 2020 for the reuse tyre industry in France. This Afnor standard is a real game changer and helps different actors throughout the value chain to track the tyre. It is now easier for resellers of used tyres because they can classify them according to specific quality type and characteristics. It is also reassuring for users because it creates a regulatory framework ensuring the control and quality of used tyres. Step by step, we succeed to make the recycling tyre industry easier and safer!

🚗 Extending tyre life: A global push for better standards and outcomes 🌏 🇪🇺 Europe's new tyre law is making waves, with Australian regulators taking notice. The question on everyone's mind: How can we make our tyres last longer while maintaining safety? Key insights: • New EU law mandates same wet performance for worn and new tyres • Michelin estimates potential savings of €7 billion in premature tyre purchases • Up to 400 million tyres could be saved annually if adopted globally • 35 million tonnes of CO2 emissions potentially reduced each year An Australian government spokesperson says: "The Australian Government will examine the potential benefits of harmonising and adopting international tyre standards." Improving tyre standards and design is the first step to extending the life of our tyres. It all begins with a well-designed product stewardship scheme to help drive better and more circular outcomes for Australia's used tyres. What should we do with more and more garbage? Conversion of plastic and tire waste into energy carriers such as fuel oil, diesel, grill coke, syngas for electricity generation, etc. Waste-to-energy (WtE) is an ingenious process that converts waste into usable energy, we can reduce landfill waste, let's turn trash into treasure! Waste-to-Energy plant is a great alternative to reduce the area for waste treatment and disposal, in addition to generating energy for all small cities in the region. A good alternative is to create an intermunicipal cooperative between small cities to share costs It is a social advantage if small villages we are supplied with locally produced energy, thus creating local jobs for the local energy using population from waste collected locally, where the government should finance projects, if they do not want their country to be covered in waste . Our environmental protection innovation is the use of microwave technology. The main advantage of microwave steam plasma reactors is that there is no nitrogen in the water vapor plasma in the plasma reactor, only oxygen and hydrogen from the water vapor plasma. There is no nitrogen oxide in the output, which is 40 times more toxic than carbon monoxide, no sulfur dioxide (filter ceramic with filters, adsorbents), minimal carbon dioxide and odorless flue gas. The hydrogen introduced into the reaction space with the microwave steam plasma slows down the reactions of gaseous sulfur, phosphorus and free chlorine formation, which can be removed in the gas cleaning unit. Microwave steam plasma reacts with chlorine-containing substances and does not produce dioxin, which is one of the most toxic substances. About microwave plasma in general, atmospheric plasma source is based on a specially designed microwave cavity. Microwaves are fed into the plasma source, resulting in a high field concentration in the center of the cavity for high-speed plasma chemistry. In the case of gas plasmas, its typical value is 4000 ºK for the neutral gas temperature, and 6000 ºK for the electron temperature at an electron density of 6000 ºK 1020 m-3 In this cavity, several kilowatts can be injected, so that a gas temperature of up to 6000 ºK can be created, which is excellent for the removal of very dilute concentrations of air pollutants such as volatile organic compounds (VOC) and their fluorinated derivatives (FOC). Wind turbine blades can be reused in a non-thermal microwave plasma field where the electron temperature is much higher than the generated gas temperature, including the vibrational and rotational temperature of the molecules. In the plasma space, all complex compounds such as resins, aromatic molecules and tars are effectively degraded and separated from the inorganic glass fiber reinforcement.
