🎥 What Did THUAS Students and Lecturers Think About the U.S. Election? This week, we hit the campus of The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) in Den Haag to capture thoughts on the recent U.S. election held on November 5th. 🗳️ We interviewed both students and lecturers, gathering a wide range of perspectives that highlight the depth and diversity of our international community. Even though the results are now in, it’s intriguing to look back at what people thought before the outcome was known. From students’ hopes for global policies to lecturers’ insights on the potential impact on international relations and economics, the responses were eye-opening and thought-provoking. Why revisit these views? The U.S. election has ripple effects worldwide, and our campus community offered a blend of youthful vision and expert analysis. It's a reminder of how global perspectives shape our understanding of such a significant event. 🌐 Stay tuned for a unique snapshot of international reactions to one of the world’s most influential elections. You might be surprised by what our students and lecturers had to say! #THUAS #USElection #YouthVoices #LecturerInsights #InternationalRelations #EuropeanStudies #GlobalPerspectives #StudentVoices Big thanks for collaboration: Gabriela Taran and Margarita Bondar European Studies THUAS Titus van der Spek Dave van Ginhoven Emma Prins Jacqueline Verweij Andy Dyachenko De Haagse Hogeschool / The Hague University of Applied Sciences

Series #Summerjob - Episode 2 "ADREXO" Three years back - a June 24th, 2020 French situation : Regional elections occurs soon Professional situation : First year student at INSA Rouen Normandie, SIB* intensive foundation degree *SIB=Section International Bilingue Personal situation : Young girl aged of 19, all was ok This job, which was supposed to last 2 days, was proposed by an employment agency. Initial hours : 5h-13h Initial activities to carry out : sort the electoral envelops by city, then by district and finally by street Real hours : 7h-16h30 Real activities to carry out : give out the electoral envelops in four villages that I didn't know, somewhere in the Eure's countryside (around 30min far from my home) Which soft skills I resorted to : Capacity for adaptation : my real mission was very different compared to my initial mission. I had to find my bearings in a village that I didn't know and find somewhere to eat and drink. Be proactive : a lot of addresses didn't match with the names written on the postbox and I had to decided if I gave out anyway. Organized, methodical : I had to organized the round in order to give out the more electoral envelops as possible, in a little bit of time How I grew up : This day was so stressful and emotionally hard. I was alone in a place that I didn't know. It was hot and I didn't take a lot of water. At the end of the day, I had no more battery on m'y phone. Finally, I decided to stop after one day since I didn't succeed to get an other mission (either this initial mission or give out the electoral envelops at Evreux - the city where I live) I chose to listen to my feelings and the reason. It was the first time that I dared to say no. Conclusion : The second professional experience wasn't terrible. I wanted to earn money easily but it was to the detriment of a good company and a good organisation. I'm proud to succeed to say no for the second day because I wasn't agree with the mission. I had the oppurtinity to say no and I'm conscious that some persons don't have this opportunity. That's why I think it's very important to find a job that you like and to do everything you can to get it.

Really important work here from the Heseltine Institute for Public Policy, Practice and Place highting the need for a strategic state approach to government. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/e8S4bXzK
Brilliant to launch ‘A Manifesto for Liverpool City Region’ convened by Heseltine Institute for Public Policy, Practice and Place bringing together evidence-informed perspectives from leading University of Liverpool researchers -including, Alexander Nurse, Katie Atkinson, Karl Whittle, Alexander Lord, Richard Dunning, Louise Kenny, Clarissa Giebel, PhD and Dr Richard Benjamin - on defining issues for this year's elections. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/g6ENcBu5 A thoughtful and provoking response from our excellent panel: Leader of Liverpool City Council Cllr Liam Robinson, Director of National Museums Liverpool, Laura Pye and University of Liverpool's Professor David Taylor Robinson, chaired by the Liverpool Echo's Liam Thorp. Three takeaways from me from the discussion: 1. Our current approaches to policymaking and government are proving ineffective in dealing with chronic challenges, such as health inequalities and child poverty, meaning that we are now going backwards on measures like life expectancy and child mortality 2. To fundamentally address these kinds of issue we need a ‘strategic state’ approach: mission-driven, coordinated, stable, able to think long-term and fund and invest in the same way, but how do we achieve it in a system not designed for it? 3. Part of the answer also lies in increasing participation in our politics, and harnessing the energy and expertise of local communities that may help to challenge political impasse I’ll be talking more about these issues, and how as researchers we can respond with excellent colleagues including Liz Richardson, Dr Ian C Elliott, Sarah Ayres, Steve Martin at next week’s roundtable part of Political Studies Association Annual Conference in Glasgow!
