“When we disrupt ocean processes, the first response is from plankton, which then cascades up through the food web,” said ecosystem oceanographer Dr. Brian Hunt who studies human and climate impacts on the #ocean. Human impacts are altering plankton communities, which could have significant ripple effects for ocean life, food security and the climate on the B.C. coast and beyond.

Where I live, February was the warmest on record and the ice in the nearby river was melted and gone by mid-March (1 month early). This has a trickle effect on the entire ecosystem. Fish may migrate earlier due to warmer water, and some cases timing of many species may be off for feeding and spawning. Many of the negative consequences of climate change are not yet understood. By investing in land conservation and carbon sequestration, Carbon Balanced Paper and its many partners are helping combat climate change globally. #climateaction
