[Recap Video] This season, the robotics program featured 17 schools from FUSD, culminating in an exhilarating District Championship at Southridge Tech MS. Out of the 60 teams that participated, 20 earned gold medals and will be advancing to the WRO-USA National Championships on July 6-7th in Upland, CA. 🎉🏅 USEL robotics competitions aren't just about winning; they provide invaluable benefits for our students and schools, including: 🔧 Enhanced STEM Skills: Students dive into real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and math, igniting a passion for these critical fields. 🤝 Teamwork & Collaboration: Working in teams teaches students the importance of cooperation and communication, skills they’ll carry into their future careers. 💡 Innovation & Creativity: Robotics challenges push students to think outside the box, fostering creativity and problem-solving abilities. 🏆 Boosted Confidence: Competing and succeeding in these events boosts students’ self-esteem and prepares them for future academic and career endeavors. 🌐 Community & Networking: Schools benefit from increased community engagement and opportunities to network with other educational institutions and industry leaders. What an incredible event it was! The talent on display this Saturday was nothing short of inspiring. Here are six key takeaways from the day: 1. Meet Kalyn Oltrogge, a powerhouse voice for females in STEM and a key leader of Hawktimus Prime, a remarkable student-led Robotics team out of the Town of Holly Springs. Hawktimus Prime does more than excel in robotics competitions across the state - they are a driving force for outreach and collaboration, empowering The Wakaboomee Program with their invaluable support. At a recent event on Community Leader, James Montague’s 40-acre ranch, Hawktimus Prime showcased STEM excellence through dynamic robotic demonstrations and powerful personal testimonies to students from Destiny Alexander’s Poof Teen Center - illustrating how STEM can transform lives and futures. Collaborative efforts with student-led organizations amplify The Wakaboomee Program’s impact, enhancing our curriculum and ability to provide inspiration during our FREE Teen Robotics Sessions on Saturdays in Cary led by John Patterson & Rene Daughtry (connect @ wakaboomers.com for more info). Think FIRST is just about building robots? Think again. 💡 We feel like our newest initiative in California was another proof point. We're thrilled to share the success of our inaugural FIRST For All Fellowship - a program that's cultivating so much more than technical skills. ➔ In its very first year, this fellowship challenged high school students to become champions of diversity and inclusion in STEM - on their teams and their community. We were blown away by how wholeheartedly our students embraced this new opportunity, diving deep into topics like unconscious bias and inclusive leadership. Their enthusiasm and dedication showed us that FIRST participants are ready and eager to tackle the important issues beyond the robot field. ⚡️ This fellowship is a humble reminder that in FIRST, we're not just engineering machines; we're nurturing tomorrow's changemakers.
