I recently attended a symposium organised by BMN College, where I shared my experience as an international student in the UK, highlighting the impact of a skill-based curriculum on my career. The symposium focused on "Bridging the Gaps in Tourism and Hospitality Education: Designing a Skill-Based Curriculum." I emphasized how the UK's educational approach, which included practical case studies, site visits, critical analysis, and stakeholder engagement, helped me gain invaluable insights into destination management, sustainability, and strategy planning. I also recommended incorporating topics like sustainability, practical learning sessions with industry experts, and networking opportunities into the curriculum to better prepare students for the industry. Grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important discussion! In collaboration with La España Azul, led by the inspiring NACHO DEAN, IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs students pitched their innovative marketing and communication ideas. The winners embarked on an unforgettable expedition to Valencia, participating in beach clean-ups, sailing expeditions and visits to scientific institutions like L’Oceanogràfic. Guided by NACHO DEAN’s vision to protect our oceans, these students not only contributed to environmental sustainability but also gained profound insights into teamwork, community and personal development. As Borja Santos Porras, our Vice Dean, highlights, such experiences underscore the intersection of learning and real-world impact. Data was collected using a questionnaire-based survey and simple random sampling. 📝 Key Findings: Distance education imposes a heavy workload on faculty for adequate preparation. Technical issues such as interruptions and disconnections are frequent. The system struggles with interactivity and maintaining student engagement. There is a lack of control over student examinations. Distance education is less effective, particularly in subjects requiring hands-on practice. 🎯 Originality: This research captures the perspectives of instructors during and after the Covid-19 pandemic, making it one of the first studies to examine academic opinions on distance education, offering valuable suggestions for educational professionals. 🔗 Read the full study for an in-depth understanding of the challenges and future directions of distance education in higher education, especially in tourism. https://lnkd.in/dkijhhwj #DistanceEducation #HigherEd #TourismEducation #AcademicResearch #OnlineLearning #Covid19Impact #EducationInnovation #TurkeyResearch #academicperspectives Ibrahim Cetin, Akdeniz University onur icoz, ADÜ Turizm Fakültesi Orhan İçöz, Yaşar Üniversitesi (Yaşar University)
