Understanding the long-term effects of medications is essential for ensuring patient safety and optimizing healthcare outcomes. However, comprehensive longitudinal data to study effects of drugs over extended periods can be hard to come by. This new whitepaper follows an insightful panel discussion at the DIA Global Annual Meeting, and addresses some of challenges posed by a lack of broad and complete longitudinal data and challenges that could arise in the conduct of long-term safety studies. The authors describe a hypothetical study design to overcome some of these challenges and explore other ways researchers may overcome obstacles. Authors: Naomi Boxall, Ron Herings (PHARMO Institute, part of Lumanity), Nikita Jeswani, Steven Weisman PhD (Lumanity), Vera Ehrenstein (Aarhus University). Earlier today, we introduced a new behavioral tool initiative in partnership with Observia. The World Health Organization, in its 2003 report on medication adherence, states that “increasing the effectiveness of adherence interventions may have a far greater impact on the health of the population than any improvement in specific medical treatment.” The new #MMAS+#SPUR tool benefits from experience and simplicity with the MMAS, and a way to examine a patients risk of non-adherence through the SPUR model. Researchers and healthcare professionals worldwide will soon have access to a new tool set to revolutionize patient adherence outcomes. Observia the company called adherence. 1. Sabaté E.
