Last week, we kicked off the UCD Career Mentoring Programme with an exciting launch event in the UCD Village! This programme, a partnership between @ucdcareers and @ucdalumni, has been helping students connect with alumni mentors for over 10 years, and it continues to go from strength to strength. This year, we’re expanding beyond 1:1 mentoring to include mentoring circles, career development workshops, and more, offering students even more ways to learn, grow, and build connections for the future. Thank you to Professor Colin Scott for sharing insights on the benefits of mentorship, and to everyone who made the evening a success! Special shout-out to our inspiring speakers, mentor Grace Oladipo and mentee Verónica Ibeas Fernandez, who highlighted the incredible value of building these connections. Stay tuned for more updates on the programme and don't miss the opportunity to get involved in the future. #ucdcareers #ucdalumni #mentoring #networking #careerdevelopment

We build proof to ourselves for who we are and who we can be. Everything we do is an extension of us, so anything we do to learn and develop becomes part of us. We don’t have to do this all the time, but when we do, we always know we can. Who have you always wanted to be and how can you take steps to be them today? I’ve looked at how opportunities where I could move slightly out of my ‘comfort zone’ than I had done previously so I could teach myself I was more capable than I realised. Throughout my career, seizing these opportunities has looked like signing up to: -Co-lead a DEI programme for the GCS -Organise an educational event for my department -Support a network (there are many) -Share my experiences by doing talks You can have personal development and facilitate in so many ways: -Speaking to someone you look up to and introducing yourself -Applying or asking for a mentor -Applying to be a mentor -Taking a career break to pursue what you love You’ll know what you need at any given time. It’s how I know when to step back and rest and when to challenge myself in a way that inspires me. How do you build proof with yourself that you can do and be anything you want to? #Personaldevelopment

The Epoch Mentorship Program was created with a singular purpose: to equip African #undergraduates for life beyond university and provide a glimpse of what it takes to thrive in the real world. Throughout the program, participants uncover their career paths, set actionable goals, and work diligently to achieve their milestones. While these are things they could do on their own (and many do), the program’s unique value lies in bringing together a #community of like-minded individuals. Through shared goals, the guidance of Epoch mentors, and the inspiration from our exceptional guest speakers, the journey of discovery, planning, and execution becomes not only manageable but deeply enriching. This is more than #mentorship — it’s fellowship. A friendly and inspiring association with peers who share your #interests, encouraging you to act, grow, and become the best version of yourself. So, when you think of this program, it’s not just about receiving advice and following instructions (although that plays a part). Instead, think of it as a community that empowers and inspires you to thrive beyond the four walls of your university. Introducing: Epoch Fellowship – a new name, the same mission, and an even stronger commitment to your #growth! #epochmentorship #mentorshipredefined #careergrowth #transformyourfuture #career

As I dive into my second year, I’m excited to enhance my skills and boost my employability for future placements. As one of the first of many steps I completed a course in Managing Personal Investments. However, there's a long way to go to reach my goals. Here’s my game plan: Continuous Learning: Exploring online courses and workshops to broaden my knowledge. Networking: Connecting with professionals and mentors to gain insights and advice. Soft Skills Development: I’ll work on improving my communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Self-Reflection: Regular feedback will help me identify strengths and areas for growth.

As you progress your career, being on the other side of that relationship – as a mentor to someone at the start of their career – is an experience that is just as memorable as it is for mentees. Here is one of many reasons to become a career mentor! #1: You’ll make a difference and give back to the RMIT community Mentees sign up to RMIT Career Mentoring because they need support to build skills, navigate professional situations and network. You will play a pivotal part in their journey to establish themselves in the workforce as they seek to build on their studies. Wendy Forster, a Master of Business Administration graduate, said her mentor played an important role in the early stages of her career. “The program actually exceeded my expectations,” she said. “My mentor at the time was a councillor of a big Melbourne suburb so he has brought in a lot of experience and perspectives. He’s also a director of a business, so he had so much to offer and share. “I think being a student for so many years, I was really missing that linkage to industry. How do I make the first step out from the uni? And how do I make myself employable? What are the skills the market needs?" “I had no idea, whereas all those mentors in my cohort brought really good experience across industry. Some are in the public sector, some in private companies, very senior positions. It’s really beneficial.” The conversations you will have with your mentee may only last for a matter of minutes, but the wisdom you impart has the potential to be life changing. "Your support system _ Keep those close!" TMC Alumni Association in one way or another is a support system to the alumni of The Mentorship Class (TMC), as it is a society of young like-minded individuals. I was privileged to listen in to Hakim Luyima in the most recently concluded Career Kickstart session, who delivered a phenomenal presentation on developing excellent work ethics and discipline. Some of my key take aways were; • It's not enough to believe in yourself, generate evidence! • Career is a lifelong journey with no definite end. • Maximum engagements, minimum attachments (Try many things so you can have lots to choose from, based on what you love to do). • Work will continuously evolve. It becomes less important what your title is and more of what skills you have. • WHO YOU ARE IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS WHAT YOU CAN DO! #TheMentorshipClass #CareerKickstart #Mentorship

Last year, we proudly supported fifty (50) ambitious students in securing coveted national service placements with esteemed organizations. Building on this success, our mission for this year is even more ambitious: to mentor and assist one hundred (100) talented students in securing postings to prestigious institutions where they can both learn and contribute meaningfully. We're thrilled to report that the feedback from our partner institutions has been overwhelmingly positive, and we're hopeful that many of our mentees will be retained beyond their service terms when August arrives. At CareerCompass GH, we believe in the power of mentorship, coaching, and hands-on assistance to ensure that young professionals embark on their careers with confidence and purpose. We understand that the way one starts their career can profoundly shape their trajectory, which is why we're dedicated to helping them start right. If you're passionate about serving as a mentor or speaker, we invite you to join us in making a difference. Likewise, if your organization is interested in sponsoring or partnering with us, our doors are wide open to collaboration. If you're due for national service this year or you know someone who might be interested, register using the link or share the link with them: https://rb.gy/59lyy5 Remember, registration and participation are completely free. Let's work together to empower the next generation of leaders! CareerCompass GH, helping you get closer to your dreams💫 Kafui Siabi #mentorship #careercompass #nationalservice
