✨ Thrilled to Share My Research Internship Journey! In July 2024, I completed an enriching 1-month research internship at Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai during which I co-authored a research paper titled: "Demand-Driven Power Scheduling with Solar Power Prediction and Optimal Generator Selection." In this research, we tackled critical challenges in the energy sector by integrating machine learning and renewable energy optimization: 🔹 Objective: Develop a framework that predicts solar power output using XGBoost Regressor and employs an intelligent scheduling algorithm to manage power allocation dynamically. 🔹 Approach: Accurately forecast solar power output using historical and environmental data. Store surplus solar power for future use during low-generation periods. Dynamically select optimal generators when solar power is insufficient, minimizing costs and maintaining grid reliability. 🔹 Results: Enhanced energy utilization and reduced dependence on traditional fossil-fuel-based generators. Improved grid stability and sustainability, contributing to lower carbon emissions and environmental impact. XGBoost Regression emerged as the most effective model with the lowest error and highest R-squared value, ensuring accurate solar power predictions. The research has significant implications for smart grid development, offering a scalable and eco-friendly approach to integrating renewable energy into existing grids. I am immensely grateful to my mentor, Dr. Dhanalakshmi R, and my teammate, Ritik Raj, for their guidance and collaboration throughout this journey. This experience has strengthened my passion for leveraging AI and renewable energy to build sustainable solutions. Looking forward to exploring more avenues in energy systems and machine learning! #ResearchInternship #MachineLearning #RenewableEnergy #GridOptimization #Sustainability #XGBoost #SmartGrid #VIT

🌍 Exciting Internship Milestone at TNO 🌱 I'm thrilled to share that I've recently completed an inspiring internship at TNO (Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research), where I had the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in renewable fuels. 🔋 During my time at TNO, I worked on an innovative reactor project, focused on enhancing e-methanol synthesis from captured CO2 and green hydrogen. My role involved developing and validating a robust model to predict and improve the small-scale reactor performance, ultimately contributing to the efficiency and the scaling-up of this promising technology. This experience not only allowed me to dive deep into the field of renewable fuels but also provided me with invaluable insights into how research and innovation can drive the energy transition forward. 🚀 A huge thank you to my supervisors, Dr. Ir. Lawien Zubeir, Prof. Atsushi Urakawa, and Dr. Ir. Tim M.J. Nijssen, for their guidance and support throughout this journey. With this important milestone behind me, I am now embarking on the last step of my master's degree, my thesis, at Delft University of Technology's Catalysis Engineering department, continuing my journey under Atsushi Urakawa's excellent guidance. This research will focus on reaction optimization through catalyst modeling, including CO2 conversion. The daily supervision of Damián Vico van Berkel and Jose Palomo Jimenez adds joy and positivity to this exciting project.☀ Their support and mentorship will undoubtedly contribute to my journey toward graduation, and I am genuinely excited for this next chapter in my academic development!🎓 #TNO #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #Innovation #Research #CO2Capture #GreenHydrogen #MethanolSynthesis #Thesis #Catalysis #ChemicalEngineering

🚨 Great Opportunity for Chemical Engineering Students: Hydrogen Production & Methanol Conversion 🚨 This year's AVEVA's Process Simulation Academic Competition focuses on the hydrogen economy, exploring different hydrogen production methods, like green and gray hydrogen. Gray hydrogen, produced from natural gas, is the most common method but poses challenges in storage and transportation. In this project, we’ll look at converting gray hydrogen to methanol—an easier-to-transport chemical—while optimizing efficiency, economics, and environmental impact. A fantastic chance for chemical engineering students to dive into energy solutions for the future! 🌍⚡REGISTER TODAY!!! Uddipana Kakati: Redefining the Landscape of Clean Energy Uddipana Kakati graduated from Temple in 2023 with a PhD in Chemistry, and her work involved studying and modifying chemical bonds and investigating the change through radiation-matter interaction to develop unique materials for clean energy application. From using water to make hydrogen, a clean fuel, to developing new technology for solar panels, Uddipana has contributed significantly to her field both during and after her PhD. How did you end up at Temple for grad school? "I did my undergrad and master’s in India, and during my master’s I had an internship with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune. I found out about Temple during my internship because the institute had an ongoing collaboration with Temple’s chemistry department, and my internship advisor suggested that Temple would be a great place to look when I started thinking about a PhD. I knew I wanted to do something in the field of clean energy, and Daniel Strongin’s lab happened to be a great place for my research interests." Can you describe some of your PhD work at Temple? "My goal during my PhD was to learn about what is stopping us from completely switching to clean energy and if there is anything I can do as a chemist. There are different types of clean energy like solar, wind, hydrogen energy, etc. At Strongin lab, I had the opportunity to study how we can use an earth-abundant resource like water and convert it into a clean fuel. Water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen, and when you pass electricity through water and use a catalyst during the process, you can break water into hydrogen and oxygen. From there, you can use the hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell to drive a car or power up a whole building and the best part of this process (using a fuel cell) is that the by-product is just water, making it a totally clean process. I primarily focused on designing and characterizing these catalysts that can efficiently split water into hydrogen." Thank you, Uddipana Kakati, Ph.D.! India has pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. In pursuance of this goal, an ambitious target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel generation capacity by 2030 has been set. It is estimated that this could create 3.4 million new job opportunities (of short or long duration), or about 1 million direct full-time equivalents. Thus, there is an urgent need of the country to create skilled manpower at all levels of the energy sector. The department of Hydro and Renewable Energy at IIT Roorkee aims to provide world-class education, training, research, development, and advisory services in hydropower, other prominent renewable energy technologies, and environmental management of water bodies. The department currently offers B.Tech. in Energy Engineering, M.Tech. in Renewable and Hydro Energy, M.Tech. in Environmental Management of Rivers & Lakes, and Ph.D. Attached are the placement brochures for the M.Tech. batch of 2023-25 and the department poster for your kind reference.
