It’s exciting to be involved in a major #civilengineering tunnelling project providing #groundgas compliance monitoring of excavations, including monitoring for #radon. The site is in a radon affected area and GGS is providing active radon monitoring of both #ambientair and dissolved radon in the #groundwater. For long term projects such as this, radon can be a risk factor for #constructionworkers if concentrations exceed thresholds. The #HSE has given radon increased focus following the publication of the #IRR2017 regulations. Yesterday the MECP held a webinar explaining and answering questions around the proposed amendments to the Excess Soil regulation O.Reg. 406/19 and boy were there a lot of good questions! With new ideas such as Aggregate Reuse Depots and Small Liquid Soil Depots being proposed, we all need to grasp how these additional types of Class 1 SMS would fit into the current excess soil framework.
