A Story of Determination: Competitions ranging from School Level to the Olympic Level In sports, no athlete from the school level, the Olympics level,l or any other level does not have such a story of struggling and dedication behind them. It also affirms that, arguably, it is not just a privilege but a blessing to be an athlete, no matter the results one achieves at the end of the race. Here is a narrative that aligns a young kabaddi player with that of one of India's top wrestlers, Vinesh Phogat. The Kabaddi Journey: When people go through life and sort out their problems, they might think about what childhood taught them. Vinesh Phogat: The Olympic challenge In 2024, at the Paris Olympics, Vinesh Phogat, who was at the heights of her career, suffered this unexpected blow. Casting for the feminist (women) 50 kg category, she only weighed 100 grams, shy of the stipulated weight on the day of the last fight. But regardless of all her endeavours, where she even starved and practised in the previous hour, she could not make the weight. It was such a dreadful moment for her and millions of her fans, and mainly because of that, she was disqualified. Try thinking about a situation in which a young person, specifically in sixth grade, was looking forward to the regional kabaddi championship. In their case, there was a challenge for one young player who needed help to reach the required weight. The player weighed 62kg once, requiring him to shed a few kilos quickly. Rather than being in such a funnel alone, they opted for their friends and teammates to make it a group effort. They jokingly but strictly locked the player during meals to ensure no food was taken before others ate. A potentially rigorous exercise was transformed into a fun, productive team event that focused on fun while enforcing the principle that sometimes choices must be made to accomplish objectives. After three days, the player lost 3 kg weight and thus fulfilled the weight condition. Still, they also won the most valuable thing – victory with the sense and understanding of themselves and their abilities in cooperation. Kabbadi had made him celebrated; he broke his ligament and had several injuries and lifelong learning. The Spirit of Perseverance However, the plot of the young kabaddi player and Vinesh Phogat are similar and produce the characters' spirit. They make people understand that winning can only be achieved with many compromises, support and, most importantly, a solid willpower to face the difficulties. CrossFit Launches Investigation into Fatality at Games Sport is different than typical workplaces to some extent, but in others it should be treated similarly. CrossFit has a problem with its games in that they pride themselves on providing unique and unexpected events to crown its champion - which is what the games are about - but it also makes any real risk assessment very difficult. Would you allow workers to start a job without knowing what they are about to do? Of course not. We emphasize the importance of a multi-level risk management to avoid any surprises - workers need to know what the risk is and what the expected controls are well before the work starts. So, how does CrossFit move forward? The obvious answer may be in the removal of any open water events - if someone slips during a bike event because they haven’t ridden in a bunch before they could certainly get hurt, but if they have any sort of problem during a bunch open water event - you have a very different risk profile. It will be interesting to see if they make the investigation publicly available - but regardless, it will have to be a safety sport moving forward. https://lnkd.in/ghN7NWaP

Last updated on March eighth, 2024 Inside Justin Medeiros’ home gym, the “Shred Shed,” WWE Heavyweight Champion and longtime CrossFitter Seth Rollins unveiled the 24.2 workout to the very best livestream numbers for a CrossFit Open announcement we’ve ever seen. One big thing: Both maximum concurrent views (how many individuals were watching directly) and overall livestream views (after 24 hours) for twenty-four.2 increased from last 12 months. The total views after 24 hours for twenty-four.2 surpassed the common views (after 24 hours) for all three announcements from 2023. The details: The 24.2 announcement recorded a maximum concurrent viewership (unofficially) of 206,012 and a complete view count (after 24 hours) of 835,042. How Does This Compare? Here’s how the 24.2 numbers compare to past Open announcements. 24.2 24.1 23.1 23.2 23.3 Max Concurrent (Unofficial) 206,012 173,366 113,624 120,336 129,146 Total Views (at 24 hours) 835,042 872,651 619,894 649,779 588,000 The max concurrent average for the 2023 Open was 120,873, far below what we saw this week with 24.2. We typically see viewership increase each week of the Open, and 2024 is following that trend. The total views per week average for the 2023 Open was 619,224, while total views (after 24 hours) for twenty-four.2 got here in at 835,042. A considerable difference of 215,818 views. However, that is lower than last week’s variety of 872,651. One thing to notice: The max concurrent views of 24.2 were roughly 45,000 higher than 24.1, yet the full views after 24 hours were higher for week one by about 37,000. A Sports Entertainment Twist Seth Rollins added the WWE flair together with his athlete introductions as he unveiled the workout. “To my right…Hometown boy, two-time Fittest Man on Earth…Justin Medeiros!” “To my left…The Iron Hog! Iowa’s own, the winner of 24.1, Colten Mertens!” “There’s just one thing left to do. Let’s get your weapons and burn…it…down!” Rollins exclaimed after revealing the workout. Let’s return further: While the above numbers only include YouTube viewership, our 2020 data includes each YouTube and Facebook. Even so, the common total views after 24 hours for every of the five weeks was 367,857. With over 800,000 views over the past 24 hours, the 2024 Open statistics are easily surpassing previous years. The big picture: These numbers show positive growth and proceed the upward trend we’ve seen since 2020. We will proceed to trace viewership through the ultimate week of the Open this 12 months.

Are sumo wrestlers healthy? 🤔 These athletes start their day at 4 AM with a rigorous 5-hour training session, followed by a nap, meal, and more exercise. They exhibit incredible strength, speed, flexibility, and athleticism. But their weight typically ranges from 300 to 600 pounds, well above the recommended range. Attending a “sumo and sushi” event last weekend in Washington DC gave me a captivating glimpse into centuries of Japanese culture through matches of professional sumo wrestlers. Despite their fitness during competitive years, when intense workouts counteract risks, sumo wrestlers often face health challenges post-retirement, leading to a life expectancy of around 65, 15 years lower than the average Japanese man. Heart failure, diabetes, and stroke are among common causes of death, but (just like the rest of us) their health seems to depend a lot on daily-habits and lifestyle choices over the longer term. The sport not only showcases physical prowess but also embodies a rich strategy and cultural heritage, emphasizing values like dignity, harmony, strength, and perseverance. All of which are pretty healthy, IMHO. Reflecting on the impact of work on health, whether it's the sedentary lifestyle, screen time, and stress faced by most of us, or the intense physical demands faced by sumo wrestlers, it's a reminder that health is complex. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to well-being; it involves trade-offs and contextual considerations. Humans are awesomely adaptable. While I enjoyed the event and even met the legendary former-wrestler Konishiki, I ignored the call for volunteers to step into the ring to wrestle a pro.
