The Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, has urged tourism operators not to be discouraged by Nigeria’s insecurity challenges when marketing the country as a top destination. Speaking at the Eighth Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the National Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) in Ilorin, she highlighted that many countries face similar issues. “This meeting helps us express what we have in Nigeria. Ade-John called attention to the importance of promoting unique experiences in Nigeria, such as its beautiful beaches and diverse communities. She encouraged Nigerians to speak positively about their country and work with the National Orientation Agency @NOA_Nigeria to instill national pride. Mr. Onung Nkereuwem, Chairman of NATOP’s Board of Trustees, praised the progress in marketing Nigeria despite economic challenges. He encouraged unity, collaboration and innovation within the tourism sector. Mrs. Ime Udo, National President of NATOP, noted the AGM’s role in identifying and promoting destinations, engaging policymakers and fostering infrastructure development. Having lived in Eastern and Southern Africa for a number of years, I have always been slightly sceptical about Ghana's ability to diversify its economy through tourism. However taking my own advise of 'don't knock it till you've tried it', I decided to embark on a family policy of 'one staycation each year' to explore Ghana as a tourist - fortunately my family also loved the idea. Last year we visited the Western Region and this year we travelled to the North, North East, Upper East and part of Savannah Regions. Over the years I have visited the Ashanti region as a tourist and a child of the soil. After two staycations and my trips home, I am convinced tourism can be an integral part of Ghana's economic diversification. We have: great history and culture; some wildlife (not as good as east or southern Africa but good enough), great nature (savannah & rain forests), beaches for swimming, surfing and snorkelling; lakes for canoeing and crocodile spotting. I have barely visited a quarter of the country and I know I will identify even more opportunities as I continue my staycations. This year I came back to work excited and proposed a comprehensive study on tourism as part of Growth with DEPTH in #Ghana. My colleagues smiled and shared a report African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) did in 2015 as part of the Ghana Transformation Forum. Almost a decade later - all the recommendations still hold true. We don't need another report, we simply need to shift from research to action so I am sharing this report to encourage policy makers and businesses to work together to transform this potential opportunity into a reality. Ghana needs #GrowthwithDEPTH and the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) stands ready to help! https://lnkd.in/gfCXFwsB

A FERTILE MARKET FOR GROWTH “Tanzania to become first Sub-Saharan African country to introduce The Ritz-Carlton”. When giants lead the way, they pave the path for independent brands to also spark significant growth. East Africa is creating a vibrant and supportive market ecosystem where local brands can flourish, contributing to the region’s rise as a unified tourism destination. With the potential of a new Ritz-Carlton in Tanzania and established properties across Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya, East Africa is positioning itself as a competitive force globally. Independent brands have a unique opportunity to capture this momentum. As regional integration under AfCFTA progresses, it sets the stage for their long-term success and sustainability. #AfCFTA

**Investing in Mauritania’s Hotel Industry: A Lucrative Opportunity** Mauritania, a gem of West Africa, presents a burgeoning opportunity for investment in its hotel industry. With its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and strategic location along the Atlantic coast, Mauritania is poised to become a premier tourist destination. The nation's diverse attractions, from the historic city of Chinguetti to the vast Sahara Desert, offer a unique experience for travelers seeking off-the-beaten-path destinations. Investing in Mauritania’s hotel sector promises significant returns due to the increasing influx of tourists and a growing middle class within the region. The government’s supportive stance on tourism and infrastructure development further enhances the investment climate. Moreover, the relative underdevelopment in hospitality compared to other regions underscores the potential for high returns on well-planned investments. As Mauritania’s tourism sector expands, investors have a prime opportunity to capitalize on this promising market. #Hospitality #Hotelindustry #Mauritania
