ENGINEERING DOMINO'S HEIGHTS The 416,000m² Domino Ha Long Bay project, developed by SUNGROUP, integrates advanced structural principles to achieve its remarkable design. The 550-meter-tall building features a lateral stability system with a H/B ratio of 11, utilizing five double-story outrigger systems to enhance stability. The mega-braced gable and internal bracing spine provide rigidity, connecting directly to the primary structure and accommodating glass-fronted lift shafts. Concrete cores form the building's vertical spine, delivering necessary lateral stiffness and managing vertical loads. The structure includes 5-6 double-level MEP floors with outriggers and a belt-truss system to maintain stiffness and reduce dynamic movement. The innovative "Domino" columns serve as both architectural and structural elements, forming an exoskeleton around the perimeter. Materials for the columns include high-strength concrete or concrete-filled tube steel sections, pushing the limits of structural engineering. Additionally, a tuned mass damper near the top of the building mitigates dynamic responses, ensuring stability and comfort. When you’re in a plane, do you try to find your house during landing? ✈️ I tend to fly a lot for business, and as a way to pass the time I try to identify certain objects during take-off or landing. A couple days ago, while landing in Kaunas airport, I was scanning the area and came upon a huge construction site. A really impressive-looking 33000 m² reinforced concrete #industrial #building. It’s atypical in it’s 18 meter long reinforced concrete beams and slabs. Such a construction allowed the customer to achieve higher fire protection requirements, to have a large span between the columns (which allows for more flexible and correct planning of the installation of production lines) and to significantly reduce operating costs. It’s great to see that the INHUS team is expanding its capabilities and can offer more advanced engineering solutions and faster construction turnaround for industrial buildings.
