In one month - September 20th - it will be the 25th anniversary of the INTERFET mission in East Timor. This operation remains the largest ADF deployment (at one time) since the Second World War. It was also an operation where a poor standard of preparedness afflicted the deployed force. Over the next month I will post a number of articles written for the 20th anniversary, culminating in a detailed piece on logistics and preparedness and what we can learn from the operation. The first provides an overview: https://lnkd.in/gNbbsfYE

Within our Defence Region we take the health, safety and wellbeing of our teams and our supply chain extremely seriously. Each and every day, Safety and Safe Working is simply our primary objective. During this VINCI International Safety Week, along with VINCI colleagues from around the world, teams across the establishments we manage have taken time out to talk about our current safety practice and how we continue to nurture our zero-harm culture. As the trusted maintenance management organisation for our Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) customer and the military personnel we support across the South-East of England, we are also constantly mindful of how we minimise risk to the lived experience of service personnel, both in terms of the services we deliver and how we conduct works safely in live operational environments. Taking time to communicate specific risks, in specific places around specific circumstances continues to help us control and minimise the likelihood of harm. Time very well spent - thanks to all involved. Work safe - Live well. #safety #vincidefence #vincifacilities #internationalsafetyweek #defencerelationshipmanagement #military #MOD #DIO #RFCA #collaboration

Today EUROCONTROL #CMC supports the #Lex-COMP-#ATCO training at our Eurocontrol #Aviation #Learning #Centre The oversight of the competence arrangements for #ATM staff and their implementation is becoming more important, particularly as the complexity of the ATM system increases. The licensing of air traffic controllers was the first step in providing such safety assurance. The course focuses on the role of #ANSPs in the implementation of the ATCO competence and of the #Competent #Authority (CA) to perform oversight of such arrangements as defined by Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/340 together with its associated acceptable means of compliance (AMC) and guidance material (GM), International Civil Aviation Organization standards and recommended practices and supporting EUROCONTROL guidance material. For the ATCO training, security is also an important topic on top with the new legislation on #Part_IS we have more and more links to different training sessions. For more information https://lnkd.in/evAz8A6e #Military #Aviation #ATCO #ATSEP #legislation Thanks to my colleague #Peter_Alderson, Bogdan Braguta for the organisation of the course & our supporting team at the #Learning #Centre.

News Release: ABP sign landmark agreement with MOD to boost logistics capability Today we announce a new strategic relationship agreement signed with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). The agreement boosts the flexibility and resilience of the UK Armed Forces sea mounting capability. Henrik Lundgaard Pedersen, Chief Executive Officer of Associated British Ports, said: “As part of our strategic commitment to supporting the defence sector, ABP is proud to provide the MOD access to our network of ports across Britain for both national emergencies and routine business. By doing so, ABP is confident it will increase the resilience and capacity of the MOD’s sea mounting capability for the most demanding scenarios, whilst driving greater cost-effectiveness into routine deployments. We look forward to deepening our relationship with the Armed Forces and the strategic defence sector across the UK.” Vice Admiral Andy Kyte CB FCILT, MOD’s Chief of Defence Logistics and Support (CDLS), said “This new arrangement greatly boosts the resilience, efficiency and agility of Defence’s Sea Mounting Capability through access to ABP’s national port estate. The relationship with ABP forms a key component of the UK Strategic Base which is critical to Defence’s ability to mount, sustain and recover force elements.” 👉 Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/e_ei4rGb UK Ministry of Defence / #MarchwoodPort / Richard Parkinson / #Defence / #Logistics

🔄𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 🔄 For the past five years, Right Management Australia completely transformed the transition experience for ADF service members and their families. Their experience in the UK gave them the expertise, framework, empathy, and commitment to set up countless veterans and their families for future success. Now, The BUSY Group will step in with no prior experience with veterans, and essentially needs to start from scratch. From the moment this decision was made, I believed it was a mistake—and I stand by that today. What’s even more concerning is that 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱. Veterans currently engaged with dedicated coaches like Louise Morrison, whose heartfelt farewell you can see below, will have to tell their stories all over again. To make matters worse, the 𝗥𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 highlighted in Chapter 5 that transition is a “period of heightened risk.” So why are we making this process even more dangerous by changing providers? Simply put: 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. I encourage you to listen to Louise, and reflect on the high standard of care our veterans and their families have received over the past five years. Sadly, I doubt anyone within Defence will take accountability for this decision, of which the long-term effects won't be felt until many of them have moved on. #VeteranSupport #ADFVeterans #CareerTransition #VeteranServices #Accountability
⭐️⭐️FAREWELL to all #ADF Members and Families I’ve worked with over the last 5 years. It has been an immense privilege, and so many of your stories will remain with me for a long, long time. The Defence Force Transition Program, with Right Management Australia has been a highlight for me and I’ve enjoyed delivering a flexible, needs based and person centred program that has made such a difference to our ADF people. Thank you to my colleagues across Australia, I have enjoyed your passion and commitment to helping others grow and find themselves, and not just find a job. All the best. I will miss you. And thank you.

Great announcement to start 2025 - an agreement between the UK Ministry of Defence and Associated British Ports to utilise more of ABP's sector-leading network of 21 ports around Britain to boost options and capability for the UK Armed Forces and save public money at the same time. The agreement builds on the strong partnership already in place at Marchwood and investment programme to increase the sea-mounting capability of Solent Gateway. Another strengthening of ABP's commitment to the defence sector and supporting our Armed Forces. Good job / BZ to the likes of Richard Parkinson Stuart Keegan Alastair Welch Andy Kyte CB FCILT and their teams for getting the agreement done! https://lnkd.in/e3CYtt5X

Does the government procurement authority and the military project office understand the process of delivering a formal RFP Submission for evaluation and the true costs that are borne by Defence Industry. The Shipley Proposal Guide is the gold standard that describes the Capture Process and Price to Win methodolgy. From my limited experience, defence industry remains surprised with the timing (both release date and due dates), as well as by certain requirements in the RFP, which does a disservice for all parties. The Canadian Army's Land Vehicle Crew Training System (LVCTS) is an example of another problem.... endless RFI's that never result in an RFP. If each RFI costs $1M of IRAD, why would defence industry continue to submit answers after 20 years and spend when the govt/military cannot commit to a clear procurement strategy within reasonable timeliness. The Canadian procurement process needs to become a better customer for the sake of the taxpayer, shareholders and most importantly our soldiers.

TIME TO PROFESSIONALISE EM LOGISTICS As defence forces have substantially upped their game on logistics in austere environments, so too now should emergency management organisations. not by entirely relying on just-too-late intervention for defence professionals, but be building the capability and professions from the bottom up.
How did we get here? Building the Defence logistician – Part One
