Last week I finalised the process for a business looking to hire a Lead Technical Architect. It was a tough search; with this being their first Salesforce hire, the business didn't know what good looked like, and it took months to find the right candidate. What was more interesting, was one of the key requirements was for the candidate to be onsite 3x a week, and the candidate that was successful hasn't been on the market since the 2022 surge of hiring, so he felt having this policy in today's day & age is slightly dated. As part of my job I had to consult him on the wider market landscape. Whilst most businesses shifted to a remote-first approach in 2021, nearly all have shifted right back, so this is very much 'normal' again. This had me thinking. Do you think we will see another global transition for the work force, like we did in 2020 when everything went remote-first? #salesforce #salesforceecosystem

As a business newly implementing Salesforce for your org, you're likely to hire an independent admin to do the initial setup. But what will happen is you'll get an isolated implementation. The admin will just build stuff to spec, but won't have the architectural considerations of the whole picture. They will focus on the what: What fields to create? What automations to build? What reports to run? But fail to ask the why: Where is data coming from? Where does it need to go? What systems need to connect? Who needs this information? They will not consider any up or downstream systems. Six months later, you're either - rebuilding everything properly (expensive) - living with broken processes (more expensive) - hiring expensive SF partners to fix it (most expensive) That's why we are building an AI-first implementation team. We will help you build it right the first time. #SalesforceImplementation #SalesforceAdmins #Salesforce

When looking to hire for your first internal Salesforce team member, there is a lot to consider. The default thinking for a lot of companies, is that they need to hire a Salesforce Administrator. This very well could be the case, but not always. Some of the things that could impact the skill set needed: 📍 How mature your Salesforce environment is and how much of the design and build has already been done 📍 Level of customisation in your org now, and how much customisation is planned in the future 📍 Breadth of Salesforce platform and plans for introducing new products/clouds in the future 📍 Existing integrations and potential planned integrations Next up it's important that you work out the skill sets needed for your environment, not just the job title you are looking to fill, then seeking the general experience that falls under that title. There can be people with very different skill sets/specialisms under the same job title. Some examples: 📍 You will find some Salesforce Administrators who are heavily focused on training and user adoption, whereas other may be much more focused on automation 📍 Some Salesforce Developers are full stack, whereas others focus on the back or front end 📍 Some Architects specialise in certain Salesforce products, and you may need someone with deep experience in one area rather than someone who is more of a generalist Hiring someone with the wrong skill set into your team can be a big problem, especially if they are the first hire in your Salesforce team. Don't rush it, get some advice and make a decision that will set you, your platform and your new hire up for success in the long run. Anything anyone else would add? I've spoken to about a dozen Salesforce Admins over the past week who've mentioned wanting to become a Salesforce Architect. So, I thought I'd offer some practical advice on how to get there based on what I typically look for when sourcing & screening for architect roles: 🖥 Deepen your Technical Expertise 🖥 While declarative skills are valuable, Apex proficiency is generally expected and necessary for most Salesforce Architect roles. 💙 Diversify your Salesforce Experience 💙 A seasoned architect should have hands-on experience with multiple Salesforce products. There are ways to do this without excessive "job-hopping." A stint at a Salesforce consulting partner allows you to solve a wide range of problems and get hands-on experience with more features and clouds. Or if you prefer working for in-house for an end user, look for an employer that uses multiple Salesforce clouds across several departments. 🗨 Build Soft Skills 💬 A Salesforce Architect needs to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. A great way to practice: Explain to friends & family members outside of the tech world what you did in Salesforce that day. When you can explain a Flow to your Nana, you're ready for an interview! 🤔 Start Thinking Like an Architect 🤔 Whether or not a particular Salesforce Architect role has direct reports, you'll be viewed as a team leader. As an admin, you can start building those leadership skills by volunteering to mentor junior team members or taking the lead on projects that require more intricate problem-solving. 🏅 Pursue Advanced Certifications 🏅 I know, I know. Experience matters more! But it's an uphill battle for me to secure a first interview for you without the certifications to back you up. And if you approach studying with a true intention to learn rather than another bullet point on your resume, they'll help with all of the above. #salesforce #salesforcecareers #SalesforceArchitect #SalesforceAdmins #awesomeadmins
