Dear all I am delighted to share with you my dissertation presentation, which centers on the urban planning of Mauritius. It examines the legacy of colonization, the contemporary pressures of globalization, and their impact on heritage site preservation. The presentation explores the application of integrated planning to tackle diverse challenges. My research specifically focuses on the Aapravasi Ghat and its Buffer Zone, spanning 2.25 km2 in Port-Louis. #heritage #architecture #intergratedplanning

How did ancient Egyptians design cities that thrived in the desert? The secret lay in their deep connection with natural resources. Egyptian cities were strategically located along the Nile, which provided essential resources like water for drinking, agriculture, and transportation. Buildings and infrastructure were thoughtfully planned to maximize access to this vital river, supporting both daily life and agricultural needs. By situating cities near fertile land and water sources, the Egyptians created a resilient foundation that enabled stable, long-term growth. How can modern cities be designed to balance resource access with sustainable urban growth? #SustainableCities #Urban #AncientEgypt #NaturalResources #Cities #Sustainability #SustainableArchitecture #Architecture #Sustainable #Resource #Design #Construction #Resilience

A new urban vision has been revealed for the revitalisation of Antakya and the wider Hatay province in southeast Türkiye, after the devastating Türkiye-Syria earthquake on 6 February 2023. With an estimated 80 percent of the city destroyed, there is an urgent need to reimagine and rebuild for future generations. The masterplan aims to retain the cherished spirit of the town and pre-earthquake characteristics in terms of scale, relationships, and configurations, reinforcing the local character and climate. It enhances accessibility and inclusivity, through the creation of new public green spaces, efficient transportation systems, and community hubs, while also increasing the city’s resilience. In this film we hear from residents and members of the design team, who outline the key themes driving the practice's masterplan for the revitalisation of Antakya. 📺 Watch the video on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/evVFKN6S #Architecture #Design #Masterplan #Masterplanning #Engineering #Construction

When I observe the corridor development project in Addis Ababa, it seems like the government is trying to win over residents ahead of the upcoming election. While there are some positive aspects, such as the effort to transform the city's appearance, there are also concerns. Some designs, particularly for utilities, seem poorly thought out, and certain elements appear to be merely superficial, like gold-painted plastic. Overall, though, this initiative marks a step towards changing the city's landscape. #Addis_Ababa, Association of Ethiopian Architects EiABC Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development #ethiopian_urbanizations @urban

In the context of architecture, territory and urbanism, everything is possible through visualization and the application of some basic concepts: 🕰 Time: Understand how spaces evolve, age, and transform, and how historical context influences design. 🚀 Space: Define spaces to create functional, aesthetically pleasing, and meaningful experiences for users, acknowledging the subjectivity and persuasiveness of spatial design. 🌇 Reality: Acknowledge the practical constraints and possibilities that shape architectural and urban design. 🌱 Utopia: Embrace idealized visions of built environments that promote social harmony, well-being, and sustainability. 🔗 Relativity: Emphasize the interconnectedness and context-dependent nature of structures and spaces. 📐 Dimensions: Align all concepts and materialize ideas into reality by considering physical, social, temporal, and experiential aspects. Those concepts provide a framework for understanding and designing built environments, highlighting the importance of considering change, context, and multiple perspectives in this "pure consciousness network". Amazing collaboration Mr. Donner!
