At the I.I.M.U.N. Championship 2024, we had the privilege of hearing from Anand Satyanand, former Governor-General of New Zealand, Rosalia Arteaga, former President of Ecuador, and Rosa Otunbayeva, former President of Kyrgyzstan, in a segment moderated by Dr. Shashi Tharoor where they engaged in a discussion on building a roadmap to promote the concept of a global village. Here are a few key lessons we learned during the session: 1. Communication has globalized the world: With the advancement of technology, communication has broken down barriers, connecting people across continents in real-time. This interconnectedness has made the world smaller, creating opportunities for cultural exchange, collaboration, and shared progress. 2. We should strive to live in peace and harmony: A peaceful and harmonious life fosters mutual respect and understanding, reducing conflicts in society. Embracing peace within and around us helps build stronger, more compassionate communities. 3. Educate, agitate, organize: Knowledge empowers individuals to question injustices and take action. By learning, raising awareness, and organizing efforts, people can create meaningful social change. 4. Show respect to everyone: Respecting others, regardless of background or beliefs, fosters inclusivity and empathy. It forms the foundation of healthy relationships and promotes unity in diversity. 5. Social media fosters a sense of a global community: Social media bridges distances, enabling individuals to share experiences and ideas instantly. This constant connectivity creates a digital global village, where borders blur, and communities unite over common interests.

Social Impact in the Regions couldn't happen without our conference partners. We refer to our first conference year, the year we worked out this was going to be a go-er as year 0. Following Year 0 I declared a 10-year minimum delivery of this event. Talitha Devadass (Taz) and Emilee Rigby were the first to throw their hands up and say COUNT US IN. Taz and Em are our Youth Stream conference partners. In 2023 they delivered a memorable program for the young people from Kempsey and Macksville High Schools - in 2024 we have nudged out the geography and the scope and these fabulous conference partners are now designing something utterly magnificent with young people across Australia. In future years this will grow. Our vision is to ensure we have a conference that is inclusive of and welcoming to young people from across Australia, that young people in the local community have the opportunity to influence the program and that each segment of the event is seen through a youth lens. Frankly, truly collaborative partnerships like this are the things that make this all worthwhile. Thank you so much Taz and Em. (and Deb S. for introducing us). If you have any interest in following stories on (1) next level collaboration and (2) opportunities for young people in the regions, you'll want to follow this story as it unfolds. #youthengagement #socialimpact #socialenterprise

Seattle Event Professionals and those that schedule industry events at Seattle hotels! Share this with our network! You know how I am always complaining about events pulling from the same audience all happening at the same time? There is a solution! Attached is the Seattle Events Calendar, managed by Jana Heinrichs, CERP Make sure whoever schedules events checks the calendar first (it’s a featured post in Seattle Event Professionals, located on Facebook), to ensure there are no conflicts. Once you do set a date, make a comment on the calendar and the admin will update, so others that check the calendar don't book their events on that day, especially if it's an event that is pulling the same attendees. #eventslife #eventprofs #pnwevents
