This summer, we had the pleasure of hosting incredible participants at the Foiling SuMoth Challenge. While Polito Sailing Team from Politecnico di Torino didn't take home the top prize, they absolutely stood out by delivering the best Lifecycle Assessments (LCA) using MarineShift360. Polito entered the challenge with two boats, Sula and Victoria, and provided comprehensive impact reports for both. What made their reports truly exceptional? The team not only mastered the correct terminologies and demonstrated a deep understanding of the LCA methodology, but they also embedded sustainability into their designs from the very start. For Victoria, they used a wooden hull mold without a plug, significantly reducing the environmental impact—a creative and forward-thinking approach! We asked Dario Vucinic, the team lead, directly how MarineShift360 supported their efforts, and here's what they had to say: "Using MarineShift360 has been crucial for our team in developing our latest projects. I’m super excited to share an update on what I’ve been working on for the past 6 months…welcome to QUAD-E. 🚀 Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to empower sustainable journeys and reduce our reliance on cars. 🌍 Our first vehicle is a 4-wheel e-bike designed to make everyday trips easier and greener. Capable of transporting 2 adults and 2 children, QUAD-E combines the utility of a car with the freedom of a bicycle. Imagine replacing those short car trips with an eco-friendly ride that’s just as convenient but way more enjoyable! I’m incredibly grateful to be working with a talented team and, after a decade in software, it’s exciting to dive back into creating a physical product—especially one that has the potential to make a real impact on our planet and the people who use it. From myth to reality, and from reality to numerical modelling!! ⏳ ⚪ 🔴 ⌛ As an Athletic Club supporter, I had always heard about the legend of “La Gabarra" and how a town crowded onto the Nervión Riverbanks (and other remotes…😄) could celebrate the triumph of our team. What happened last April 11th exceeded my expectations. Such an emotional day!! 40 years later, it was well deserved. 🚢 🚢 I didn't miss the opportunity to analyze the transport set designed to tow “La Gabarra" (18.5m length x 8.5m width) from the Real Club Marítimo del Abra to Bilbao City Council, covering an approximately 7.50 NM distance. FACAL ONCE (Pasajes) tugboat, with 12 tons bollard pull, and BALLONTI/BOLINTXU (Port Authority of Bilbao) mooring boats guided the expedition with about 60 people on board. 👨👩👦👦 In the simulation, a maximum towing speed of 4 knots, a maximum wave height of 0.50 m and maximum current speed of 0.5 m/s have been considered. Main outputs showed that the FACAL ONCE operated with a safety factor of 5. 👨💻 An interesting exercise that we can perform at TECNALIA Research & Innovation as a service for the offshore industry, carrying out T&I studies of floating devices 🌬 (FOWT/OSS), sizing up required transportation means, and quantifying the technical and economic feasibility of offshore maneuvers. ⚪ 🔴 ⚪ 🔴 ⚪ 🔴

🏃♀️+3C, mixed rain, snow and even hail. That's how my first half-marathon began. And continued for I'm not even sure how many kilometres! Last June, I thought I had recovered enough after the birth of my then almost 1yo son, and I started running again. Not just occasionally like I did before, but preparing for my first-ever 10k race that we agreed to run with my colleagues from Imina Technologies SA. Fast-forward half a year from that race, I was on my own this time. When I saw the forecast, I said to myself what I said many times this winter: perfect weather for running! And went ahead to get a water-repellent windbreaker before they are sold out. I actually enjoyed this experience. I finished with 2h28, which was more or less what I expected. I am not too sore, and a bit surprised, because I thought it would be harder. Ok, a bit less rain would be nice, but my shoes weren't soaking. So it was quite a perfect weather for running. Just imagine: a year ago, I wasn't running AT ALL. And now, I'm a proud half-marathon finisher! Step by step, one run after another, it built up to this. It's always sort of obvious when you read this kind of success stories "I followed through with the plan and it worked out", but it's quite amazing to experience the process and the result myself. #running #semiconductors #womenintech
