CBS news reports on the successful US parole program that has resettled 187,000 Ukrainians with little contention. In 2022, the Biden Administration created the "Uniting for Ukraine" program, which allows an unlimited number of Ukrainians with a US sponsor to come to the US and work. Under this program 236,000 cases have been approved. Attacks on consulates and embassies can indeed violate international laws that protect diplomatic missions. While the Geneva Conventions primarily concern the laws of war and humanitarian issues, the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises is established under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961. This convention, which is widely accepted, makes it clear that the premises of embassies and consulates should not be violated or damaged. The attack is an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of Syria and undermines its stability and security. It is a violation of international law and the UN Charter. Attacks against diplomats or diplomatic facilities are also illegal under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961. The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations is an international treaty that governs diplomatic relations between independent countries. It was adopted in Vienna, Austria in 1961 and has been ratified by most countries around the world. The Convention establishes the framework for diplomatic relations, including the privileges and immunities of diplomats, the protection of diplomatic missions and personnel, and the rules for the conduct of diplomatic relations. It also sets out the rules for the establishment of diplomatic missions, the appointment of diplomats, and the conduct of diplomatic negotiations. The irresponsible act of the Israeli forces is a major escalation in an already volatile region. We call on the UN Security Council to prevent Israel from its adventurism in the region and its illegal acts attacking its Neighbours and targeting foreign diplomatic facilities. Iran's consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus was flattened on Monday in what Syrian and Iranian media described as an Israeli air strike. The strike killed a top Revolutionary Guards commander and several diplomats. I joined WION (World Is One News) to discuss the latest airstrikes, attributed to #Israel, which destroyed an #Iranian consulate in #Syria and killed a senior #IRGC commander. I explained that * while there is nothing new about airstrikes in #Syria against #Iranian targets, purportedly by #Israel, including against senior #IRGC figures, the new element is the targeting of #Iran's diplomatic sites. * I explained that #Iran tends to blame everything that ever happens on #Israel, whether in fact it is #Israel or domestic opposition or other groups, and it is likely to react with anti-#Israel threats and likely to continue weaponizing its regional proxies and #militias against #Israel. * However, I did not foresee a reaction that was far bigger than the usual attacks and that there is already an ongoing #escalation independent of this particular airstrike. * I addressed #Iran's use of #Houthis to target and disrupt #RedSea trade, and weaponization of assorted regional groups on October 7, but also beyond that, and the expected and incremental expansion of #Hizbullah's operations * I explained that a significant portion of #Israel's northern border residents have had to evacuate and still have not been able to return home due to ongoing #Hizbullah strikes * I talked about #Houti attacks on #Eilat, and the expansion of their coordinated operations with #Iran and hijacking of vessels beyond the Red Sea into the Indian Ocean, and even the Arabian Sea regardless of #Israel's purported attacks * I also talked about #Iran's efforts to assassinate #Israeli private citizens/businesspeople around the world and how it is behind all the regional escalations whether against #Israel or other international targets, and how the airstrikes on its diplomatic sites are a clear communication to reduce aggression and stop this activity or else that #Iran will be held directly responsible for the violence by its proxies. * I also explained that #Iran is internally weak as evidence by its inability to stop or prevent attacks on its targets in #Syria or for that matter to prevent the recent #ISISK attack inside #Iran proper. #Iran has also not been able, despite the #bravado, to prevent other operations by various actors, inside its territory, so beyond proxy warfare, it is doubtful that #Iran will be able to do much in response.

Turkey and Israel have had a complex relationship over the years, with periods of cooperation and tension. In recent years, Turkey has been critical of Israel’s policies towards the Palestinians and has taken steps to downgrade diplomatic relations. In 2010, Turkey expelled Israel’s ambassador and froze military ties after Israeli commandos killed nine Turkish activists on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.
