Our Partner Mr. Kinjal Champaneria and Associate Shakshi Bafna have authored an article on the Key changes under the Foreign Direct Investment policy (the "FDI Policy") in the space sector. The conditions regulating the 2020 FDI policy for the Indian space industry have been updated by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade vide press note dated March 4, 2024, to increase the role and inclusion of non-governmental entities and private sector players in boosting India’s market share in the Global Space economy which currently accounts to only 2 percent, despite being among the only few spacefaring nations in the world. [#Europe] This Wednesday, October 16th, a hybrid Policy Dialogue organised by the European Policy Centre with the support of METI explored the role of #midcaps in Europe’s economic landscape, the current challenges they face, and the regulatory and industrial policies needed to enhance their #competitiveness. European midcaps are highly innovative, resilient, and internationalized companies which should be valued as strategic economic and geopolitical assets. Yet because they have been overlooked for so long, they often operate below their potential, hindered by disproportionate regulation, disincentives to scale up, and poor access to EU funds. Yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to hear from Mykhailo Fedorov, the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, at the Ukrainian Outsourcing Summit. His insights on the digital transformation of Ukraine, especially in the tech and outsourcing sectors, were both inspiring and eye-opening. It was powerful to learn how Ukraine is positioning itself as a global hub for IT and digital innovation, even amid the ongoing challenges. Mykhailo’s leadership and vision in driving the country’s digital economy forward are truly commendable. His emphasis on innovation, resilience, and the importance of collaboration between government, businesses, and global partners was a key takeaway for me. As Ukraine continues to push boundaries in digital transformation, it's clear that there’s immense potential for the outsourcing and IT services industry to thrive. The worth reading "Transformation Paths" study, commissioned by the Federation of German Industries (BDI) in collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and the Institute of the German Economy (IW), highlights the urgent need for reforms to maintain Germany’s industrial competitiveness. Here are the most important findings: 1️⃣ Threat to industrial value creation: About 20% of Germany's industrial output is at risk due to high energy costs, excessive bureaucracy, and a shortage of skilled labor. These factors are putting the country behind its international competitors. 2️⃣ Massive investment requirement: An additional €1.4 trillion in investments is needed by 2030 to drive the transition toward a competitive, climate-neutral industrial base.
