Ukraine-Poland: energy without borders Paweł Stanczak, advisor to the GTSOU’s Representation in the EU, took part in the online public debate “Energy without borders: Ukraine and Poland” jointly organised by the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting and the Warsaw Enterprise Institute. During his speech, Paweł Stanczak emphasized the importance of GTSOU’s accession to the ENTSO-G network, which would allow the Company to become a full-fledged member of the European network of operators and to conduct business on the European market same as other players. Mr. Stanczak also dwelled on the development of alternative energy in Ukraine, particularly with regard to the production of biomethane and opportunities offered by such production. “Biomethane is a chance to decentralise energy sources. In the times of war, centralised energy production and distribution is not always able to cover the country’s needs. Development of the biomethane industry will allow to decentralize production, and therefore to survive difficult times caused, for instance, by war,” Paweł Stanczak said. The GTSOU’s representative also emphasised the benefits of Ukrainian alternative energy development for Poland. According to him, Poland’s interest in the import of Ukrainian-made biomethane would contribute to a more active integration of the two countries’ gas transmission systems. Similarly, Ukraine’s ambitions to become a major player in the European hydrogen industry may encourage the use of currently unloaded parts of Poland’s GTS to create new infrastructure connections between Ukraine and the EU. Apart from that, a couple of days ago a meeting of the Ukrainian-Polish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Lviv. The Ukrainian delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk. Among the issues raised with regard to energy sector, Ukraine’s delegation focused on the need to create firm natural gas transportation capacities on the Polish side, as well as to provide for the possibility of natural gas storage in Ukrainian underground facilities to strengthen Europe’s energy security. #gas #transportation #storage

Hydrogen as a Bridge to the Future of Ukraine and Europe The European Commission has unveiled an ambitious plan to develop the hydrogen economy, aiming to ensure energy security and achieve climate neutrality. For Ukraine, these plans hold even greater strategic significance. The ongoing war has devastated a significant part of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, compelling the country to seek innovative solutions for recovery and modernization. Hydrogen can become a cornerstone for not only decarbonization but also Ukraine’s integration into the European energy market on a fundamentally new level. For Ukraine, building a hydrogen infrastructure means: 1. Energy Security: Diversifying energy resources and creating reserves for domestic consumption. 2. Economic Recovery: Investments in hydrogen technologies will boost the economy and create new jobs. 3. European Integration: Participating in EU hydrogen initiatives reinforces Ukraine’s role as a key energy partner in Europe. 4. Environmental Restoration: The adoption of hydrogen will facilitate a gradual transition from fossil fuels to clean energy. The Eastern European Association for the Development of the Hydrogen Economy urges the Ukrainian government and international partners to integrate hydrogen initiatives into reconstruction strategies. We must create the conditions for Ukraine to emerge as a regional hub for hydrogen energy, leveraging our natural resources, technical expertise, and strategic geographical location. Ukraine’s hydrogen transformation is our opportunity to build a foundation for sustainable development, even amid the challenges of war. The time to act is now. #hydrogen #Ukraine #HBA #EnergyTransition #EconomicRecovery https://lnkd.in/dFT5QEw2

Yesterday The World celebrated #WorldHydrogenDay! Hydrogen is the energy carrier of the future. And once again, I am convinced that it is not in vain that I have been dealing with this topic for more than 4 years and improving in it. Did you know that depending on the production method, it is divided into colours, in particular 🖤🤎💙💜❤️💚💛🤍 More details can be found at the link: https://lnkd.in/dave5JHv However, the war is making its adjustments, including catastrophic destruction of reservoirs and water pollution, which is leading to a significant water shortage in areas previously considered favourable for hydrogen energy development. For example, the potential for hydrogen energy development in the Lviv region is 1% of the total estimated (as of 2021) potential of Ukraine. But I am very glad that I can raise this topic among environmentalists and highlight both the positive and negative aspects of this issue. More information about my scientific publications can be found here: 1. Environmental aspects of the development of “green” hydrogen energy in Lviv region https://lnkd.in/dm4GN23E 2. If you ask about my biggest fear in this journey of survival and defending Ukraine from our crazy and greedy neighbour, I would say it is surviving the winter when our Energy system is attacked by rockets and drones. The threatening shadow of a blackout is already disastrous in warm times, but in winter it is a threat for the whole population of Ukraine, with our winters getting to minus 20 degrees. Electricity turned to be of such strategic importance, which I was not aware of before. You get used to it - it is just there. Until things change. The conversations about climate change and a need for a green energy can get a huge additional push after governments study our experience. There is one more hure drawback of a big centralized generation. It is an easy target. We now have enough crazy dictators in the world, and rockets of quite a long range for us all to start taking this risk seriously. Electricity is like blood. All the infrastructure, technology, communications runs on it. And heating. I remember when on my ecosystem discovery tour in France, which was kindly and generously organized by Guillaume-Olivier Doré (thank you!), a couple of years ago I was speaking almost exclusively about this topic. This winter is a challenge again. I have decided to give some additional energy into this. We have initiated an interview with our Ukrainian Green energy headliner, Roman Zinchenko, who runs Greencubator, accelerator for UA green energy solutions. You can read it here https://lnkd.in/dC4PczWd It gave a lot of insights into the current status and challenges of energy generation in Ukraine. During our next team meeting at TechUkraine we have discussed this problem and an idea to create a global challenge for international startups was born. Tatiana Skydan took the lead, shaped the working group and Tech4Good Global Challenge #1: Energy for Ukraine was created. The first results of this initiative - 7 game-changing projects were selected that could help Ukraine and other regions facing similar challenges: 🇬🇷 BIO2CHP 🇮🇸🇺🇸 IceWind 🇮🇪 GKinetic Energy Ltd 🇮🇹 PhotonSolarSystems 🇯🇵🇱🇺 AC Biode 🇪🇸 My Solar Plant by Xizan 🇬🇧 Olsights Today, I want to thank Miguel Martin, Arnaud Lumet, Iryna Novikova, Ph.D, Emanuele Volpe, Emmanuel Lowe, Serhii Serhiienko and, of course, the main driver of this Challenge Tatiana Skydan for the enourmous work that was done. Deep regards to our partners Innovation Holding Sikorsky Challenge, F6S and ITKeyMedia. Working on the next steps and passing the lead also formally to Tatiana Skydan. We at TechUkraine leave the right to run similar initiatives in Tech4Good domain and will be happy to support Tech4Good Global Challenge #1: Energy for Ukraine in further steps. Thank you all. And let's keep on doing these amazing things togetrher! UPD. We have passed all the access rights and left the project. Focusing on launching new initiatives, a lot of work ahead!

🚀 Roman Andarak, Director General for Strategic Planning and European Integration at the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, provided a keynote speech at the Ministerial Session of 2024 WindEurope’s international exhibition and conference, which takes place in #Bilbao, Spain 🌏. The session aimed to unlock the value of wind, and it was attended also by #Spain, #Germany, #Turkey, #Greece, and #Moldova. Mr. Andarak, in particular, revealed the value of #wind for Ukraine’s post-war “green” #recovery as well as its further #sustainable development and growth. A year ago a new 2050 Energy strategy was adopted. According to it, by 2030, Ukraine aims to achieve a 27% share of RES in gross final energy consumption, while the total installed wind power capacity should increase to 10 GW by 2032. 💬 “Every wind turbine, whether it is installed in Ukraine or the EU, means less consumption of russian gas and less income for killing civilians, both the elderly and children. Every megawatt of clean energy is a significant contribution to our common European energy security,” a representative of Ukraine’s Ministry stated. In addition, Ukraine's case shows how wind energy technology can effectively contribute to the modernization of infrastructure, from roads to the grid. That is why the government defines wind energy as the basis for rebuilding the country after the war. 🙏 In the end, Mr. Andarak expressed his gratitude for the support, solidarity, and assistance provided by all European partners. Representatives of UWEA’s Secretariat as well as its member companies are traditionally among the participants of the event!
