🇺🇦 “When we talk about Ukraine's recovery, we talk about the recovery of the future new EU member state” (Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, in his opening address at the #URC2024 in Berlin). Ukrainian local communities represent a key driving force for Ukraine's successful recovery & sustainable development. The Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin highlighted the role of these municipalities. Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression, Slovenia has been offering assistance and support to Ukraine. The support has resulted in long-term sustainable partnerships based on solidarity and friendship, with Slovenia offering its valuable experience as Ukraine continues its path towards the EU and the Slovenian government announcing the allocation of an additional 5 million € to Ukrainian recovery.  We are proud to announce the release of our publication, “Slovenia Supporting Ukrainian Communities: Integrating Reconstruction with Local Development”, highlighting Slovenian contribution and opportunities for future cooperation in the recovery, reconstruction, and EU integration of Ukraine. 🇪🇺 🇺🇦 We became one of the associate partners of the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Reconstruction of Ukraine! ⠀ From now on, member cities of our Association will have a wider range of opportunities in the post-war reconstruction process, as they can join the projects the Alliance is working on. ⠀ The Alliance calls for a sustainable recovery of Ukraine based on the following principles: 🔹 unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and right to defend its sovereignty 🔹 further European integration and access to European networks for Ukraine's local and regional authorities 🔹 a recovery strategy based on integrated planning at the territorial level, using systemic approaches for sustainable, green, smart and inclusive development of territories based on the #buildbackbetter principle 🔹 focus on improving good local/regional governance, including transparency, fighting corruption, protecting local media freedom and promoting e-governance 🔹 promoting the development and modernisation of the Ukrainian countryside as an important component of Ukraine's success 🔹 promoting local and regional business development and innovation. ⠀ The European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Reconstruction of Ukraine was launched at the initiative of Ukraine in June 2022 by the Council of Europe, European Committee of the Regions and partners, including European and Ukrainian associations of local and regional authorities, to coordinate their joint efforts to help in the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine. ⠀ #RebuildUkraine #RebuildUkraineGreen

🛠️ How can Ukraine support the long-term recovery and development of its territories? Yesterday, Ukraine adopted comprehensive changes to its State Strategy for Regional Development 2021-2027, first published in 2020. Russia’s large-scale war of aggression against Ukraine has severely altered the trajectories, needs and development potential of regions across the country. The updated Strategy reflects the reconstruction and recovery needs of Ukraine’s communities. Designed to contribute to EU accession, it also identifies key development priorities, including restoring and improving essential public service delivery, integrating displaced people and supporting economic development. Building on 10 years of co-operation in the field of regional development, the OECD - OCDE worked with the Ukraine to update the Strategy. As part of the OECD-Ukraine Country Programme 2023-2027, we will continue working with Ukraine as it designs, implements, funds, and monitors and evaluates short-term reconstruction and longer-term recovery for its regions. OECD is uniquely positioned to play a key standard-setting role in this process of critical significance for Ukraine's readiness to become a full-fledged member nation of the EU. Not surprisingly, the process, and its eventual success, are not less important for the Union itself...

The Ukraine Recovery conference (URC) 2024, held in Berlin on June 11-12, marked a significant step forward in the international community's support for Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia. The conference brought together over 3,400 participants from various sectors, including national and local governments, businesses, and civil society organizations. The URC 2024 extended the dimensions of Ukraine's recovery to four key areas: business development, European integration, municipal and regional development, human capital development. The event aimed to consolidate sustainable international support for Ukraine’s recovery, reconstruction, reform, and modernization efforts. 💡 On 11-12 June, the governments of Germany and Ukraine will be co-hosting the Ukraine Recovery Conference #URC2024 in Berlin. The conference is dedicated to mobilising international support for Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery and will bring together a broad range of stakeholders, including government officials, business and civil society representatives. A main topic of the conference will be the link between Ukraine’s recovery and its integration into the European Union.
