Another day another leadership program 😎 🙌 1871 reached out to our Latinas in Tech | Chicago board about this opportunity. I was hesitant to join! I honestly don't feel like a leader. I feel "too young" or "too inexperienced". Imposter syndrome has been REAL recently. LIT Chicago has pushed me to be more confident and hop onto opportunities when I can. I'm not afraid to jump anymore. In our first session, we were asked to create our Leadership Persona. We learned about 6 types of leaders and how they lead in both good and bad ways. I identified with the participative leader. One of the downsides is taking on too much (which I definitely do). I'm trying to balance all the different organizations I'm involved in but also, I just want to be connected with others. I just want new friends. I think since I lead with my heart, I can dive too deep and too fast into something. If things don't go well, it feels personal. I know it's not personal, but I have trouble unblurring those lines. I have trouble with setting those boundaries in my personal life too. In only a few short hours, I felt so connected with my cohort members. I was sharing experiences it would have taken me months to share. I felt so welcomed. 1871 has always created a safe space for me and I can't wait to become more involved in their community. Here is what I wrote: As a participative leader, I lead with my heart. I prioritize one's health and wellbeing. My core values are empathy, collaboration, self-care and keeping an open mind and heart. My goal is to be the person I needed when I was younger. To amplify the voices of others. To give those a voice in spaces where they feel silenced. Can't wait for day 2!
