🌍 A fruitful month of collaboration and innovation! 🌍 Marco Bianchini, PhD, a researcher from LOMARTOV SL, recently completed a productive one-month visiting stay with us at the Université de Liège. This collaboration took place within the framework of the CHem PGM project, a groundbreaking initiative focused on advancing sustainable technologies for recovering Platinum Group Metals (PGMs). During his stay, Marco worked closely with our team, Senior Researcher Mohamed Aâtach more particularly, to evaluate the environmental performance of novel PGM recovery technologies using the Life Cycle Assessment (#LCA) methodology. This critical assessment helps ensure that these innovative recovery processes align with sustainability goals and deliver real environmental benefits. This visiting stay underscores the power of collaboration between research institutions and industry partners in driving impactful results. We were delighted to have you with us at the GeMMe Marco, you will always be welcome with us. Here’s to continued progress on the ChemPGM project and to advancing sustainable solutions for the future! 🌱🔬 #Sustainability #ResearchCollaboration #LifeCycleAssessment #ChemPGM #Innovation #PGMs #CircularEconomy Urban and Environmental Engineering (UEE) - Faculté des Sciences Appliquées - ULiège

✨ Additional insights from our research assistant Hajar Elfatihi, regarding her participation in the Site Selection Days 2024, which took place in Goslar last month✨: I was deeply thrilled to take part in the 2024 Site Selection Days, organized by the Technische Universität Clausthal and the Federal Company for Radioactive Waste Disposal (BGE). The conference covered a broad spectrum of scientific, technical, and socio-technical topics related to site selection. Engaging in deep discussions with professionals and academics in such a collaborative environment was a true delight!🤓 I contributed with a poster, where I introduced a method to quantify potential #knowledge gain regarding the geoscientific weighting criteria for the site selection, combining concepts from #DecisionTheory (Analytic Network Process) and #InformationTheory (Value of information). The conversations that ensued were thoughtful and provided valuable feedback, enriching my research perspectives significantly🤩. This experience reaffirmed how crucial interdisciplinary approaches are in addressing the complex challenges of radioactive waste disposal. Working across various fields not only brings unique insights but also fosters #InnovativeSolutions. Thankful for the opportunity and looking forward to continuing these insightful conversations and collaborations! 🙏🏼 #SiteSelection2024 #CollaborativeScience #GeologicalRepository #PublicParticipation #DecisionTheory #EnvironmentalScience #RadioactiveWasteManagement #Interdisciplinary #TagederStandortauswahl #Endlagersuche #KnowledgeManagement #MCDM #ANP #Endlager

How can #machine-learning improve #green steel production? We are excited to welcome Baptiste Bienvenu to MPI SusMat, where he will explore this question with a #scholarship awarded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The formation of microstructures and defects during hydrogen-based direct reduction hugely influences the materials properties. Yet they are not fully understood at the atomic scale. In close collaboration with the experimental groups at MPI SusMat, Bienvenu develops a machine-learning interatomic potential to identify and overcome barriers in industrial green steel-making implementation. ☞ How do we accelerate environmental innovations and sustainable development? At the 4th FPO International Workshop, researchers from the Innovation Horizons Project presented impactful research and innovation (R&I) management concepts and findings that could support the sustainable transition of the energy sector. Dr. habil. Zoltan Csedo highlighted the significance of network orchestration in sustainable smart city initiatives, demonstrating its role in enhancing environmental innovation performance. Additionally, Dr. Máté Zavarkó, PhD discussed how transdisciplinary research and environmental innovation could be interconnected within the energy sector, drawing on empirical data from the V4 (Visegrád Group) countries. Both perspectives underline that strategic adaptation is a critical success factor in environmental innovation activities, especially in the face of turbulent market and institutional contexts and complex stakeholder relationships, as suggested by the recent findings from the research group. The Innovation Horizons Project is part of the Future Potentials Observatory (FPO). 🚀 New research project launched! 🌍 The University of Potsdam and the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau are joining forces in the innovative project ERASER, dedicated to the next generation of wastewater technologies. Over the next four years, this interdisciplinary network will work on the cost-efficient, energy-efficient and sustainable elimination of trace pollutants. 🔬 What is the goal? The development of innovative photocatalytic processes for the removal of organic contaminants from wastewater. Under the direction of renowned experts such as Prof. Dr. Hans-Hennig von Grünberg and Prof. Dr. Ilko Bald, research is being conducted into new technologies that could revolutionise wastewater treatment. 💡 Why is this important? The project not only receives a funding rate of 60% from the state of Brandenburg, but also a high level of participation from the universities themselves. This demonstrates the commitment of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau and the University of Potsdam to environmental technology. With a total volume of over 2.5 million euros, the foundation for future-oriented environmental solutions is being laid here. 👉 Find out more at this link: https://lnkd.in/eMY3HnM9 #AirportRegionBB Technische Hochschule Wildau Universität Potsdam #WFBB
