Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s startup on the global stage, the success story of a middle-class family boy from Bhubaneswar who defeated some of the most prestigious universities in the world. Anup Paikaray , Founder of Newrup Tech Solutions, a Startup Odisha-supported startup, is a recent graduate from Odisha University of Technology and Research, with a degree in Electronics and Instrumentation. He was the winner of the Smartideathon contest organized by GITAM University in August 2023, for which he had the chance to attend the Boston immersion program at Northeastern University from March to April 2024. In Boston, his startup, Newrup Tech Solutions, participated in the flagship business presentation event called Pitchathon. Here, he competed against startups from some of the greatest universities in the world, including Harvard University and MIT Innovation Lab. Initially, Anup bhai feared how he would compete against these top competitors, but he gathered the courage. When he went on stage, the first word he said was “Jay Jagannath.” After a tough competition, he emerged as one of the winners, winning a cash prize of 2 lakhs and a trophy. Most importantly, he made India proud as he waved the Indian flag in front of all the foreign audiences, proving that Indian students are not inferior to anyone else. In the past, Anup Paikaray and his startup have won many prestigious awards, such as Best student startup of the year 2023 by Startup Odisha under the Department of MSME, Green Bengal Innovation Contest, 3M Young Innovator’s Award, Azim Premji Social Enterprise Award, and many more. I hope he continues rising in the future. it's my privilege that I got a chance to met him during a seminar. The gist of putting his story in my linkdln is that you don’t have to be from a great university or a high-class background to be a winner. And never feel ashamed to represent your culture. I would like share my experience like I always start my presentation/ seminar by saying jay Jagannath wheather it is formal or informal meeting. from my 2yrs of journey many times i got warned before going in to stage like -: sasmita don't say "Jay Jagannath" if it's formal meeting or a seminar. I don't think if I'll start my presentation or pitching by saying jay Jagannath it will create bad impression infront of the audience and judges. Its all about how confident you are about your project and your presentation skills, how depth of knowledge you have regarding that project. Entrepreneurship #inspiration

Empowering Startups: The Essential Role of Incubators in India" I’m pleased to share that a joint report led by Prof. Thillai Rajan A. from IIT Madras and Prof. Srivardhini K. Jha from IIM Bangalore has shed light on the pivotal role of incubators in our startup landscape. Key findings reveal that Chennai and Bangalore are leading the way with a high concentration of industry and academic incubators. This report underscores the impact of these incubators and emphasizes the need to elevate incubation activities and improve their quality nationwide. Prof. Jha highlighted how the report reflects the vital contributions of incubators, while Prof. Rajan pointed out that this research shifts focus from just startups and investors to the essential role of incubators in the value creation chain. Notably, incubated startups are 2.5 times more likely to secure funding compared to those without incubation support. Amitabh Kant remarked on the crucial role of incubators in fostering growth within the Indian startup ecosystem, and he commended the collaboration between two leading institutions in producing this timely publication. Prof. Rishikesha T. Krishnan emphasized the importance of innovation and how incubators support diverse creators by promoting grassroots development and leveling the playing field. This report is a significant step towards recognizing and enhancing the critical support system that incubators provide to startups! #StartupEcosystem #Incubators #Innovation #IITMadras #IIMBangalore #Entrepreneurship #Growth #Research

INDIA INCUBATOR KALEIDOSCOPE 2024. INDIA SEES HUGE GROWTH IN STARTUP INCUBATORS : SAYS THE IIT-MADRAS,IIM-BANGALORE REPORT The number of incubators in the Indian ecosystem has grown steadily, with more than 1,100 active incubators dotting the Indian startup ecosystem. Reportedly, Chennai has a high proportion of academic incubators (82%), whereas Bengaluru and Gurugram have a high proportion of industry incubators at (71%) and (84%). A POINT OF PRIDE: This increase reflects India’s efforts to foster innovation and economic upturn through entrepreneurship. The southern region of India, particularly has become a hub for these incubators, hosting 45% of nation’s total, with notable concentrations in Chennai and Bengaluru making them creating an impact in Economical Growth and strengthening innovation. Significantly, it creates impact on Economical opportunities and innovation as follows: 1)JOB CREATION: Incubators help startups grow, which in return creates job oppurtunities to the deserved candidates. This is particularly beneficial for young and innovative proffessionals. 2)ECONOMIC GROWTH: Incubators foster the development of new businesses that contribute to local and national economies. Successful startups increase the GDP by contributing to various industries. 3)REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT: By providing access to networking opportunities in Tier 2 and Tier cities, incubators help to reduce urban migration by creating local job opportunities in ground level. A CALL FOR PROGRESS Though, India emphasizes the positive impact of startup incubators in helping companies secure early funding and gain recognition,It also disclose that India’s Incubator density is comparatively lower than that of countries like U.K.,U.S and China accentuating the potential for further expansion. These findings underscore the importance of incubators in enhancing India’s entrepreneurial landscape. Over 67% of Indian unicorn startup founders have engineering backgrounds, according to an analysis by YNOS Venture Engine, an organization incubated at IIT-Madras. Two years ago, nearly 85% of the founders in this elite startup club, each valued at over $1 billion, were engineers. As the number of unicorns has increased to 114 in 2023 from 100 in 2022, the diversity among founders and co-founders has also grown. Currently, of the 206 co-founders and founders of unicorn startups, there is a greater representation from those with business, economics, architecture, hotel management, and fashion technology backgrounds. Non-engineers, including graduates of business, commerce, and economics, now make up 9% of this group, while women constitute only about 7.2%. India boasts over 300,000 registered startups. "Today, there is more diversity among startup founders compared to a decade ago... Engineers still maintain an edge due to their ability to iterate quickly and their high confidence and risk-taking capabilities," said Rajesh Sawhney, founder of GSF Accelerator. Among these engineers, 60% are from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), with 7% having graduated from Delhi Technology University and another 6% from the Birla Institute of Technology. Thillai Rajan, a professor in the Department of Management Studies at IIT Madras and founder of YNOS, highlights that entrepreneurs are increasingly recognizing the importance of diverse skills in founding teams and the improved ability to find co-founders with complementary skills over time.
