Delegate Rae Cousins of the 79th District stopped by our campus today for a tour of our facilities. During her visit, she spent time with staff and youth at both Charterhouse School and the Child & Family Healing Center. Her interest in our mission and dedication to learning about our programs is greatly appreciated, as we continue to support youth and families in our community.

In communities across the country, the demand for early childhood education (ECE) exceeds the number of slots available for children, including in #Missouri. Kids Win Missouri is working to address this challenge through its Child Care & Early Education Community Planning Project, which is supporting the development of locally focused community plans designed to chart a path toward a child care and early education system that better meets each community’s needs. #VoteToTransformLives: Education To improve children and young people's experiences at school, we call for better supports that provide a link between the community and school. This quote from a young person we work with illustrates perfectly why this support is needed. #TransformingLives #CommunityEngagement #SchoolSupport #YouthEmpowerment #StudentSuccess 🏫 🧩

Well said Jim Davnie and Kent Pekel. With a focus on solutions, Family Engagement, Positive School Climate/Multi-tiered Systems of support, Data-Driven Early Warning Systems, Increased Caring Adults and Mentors, we are addressing the root causes instead of solely placing the blame on the student and/or their families. According to the MN Student Survey data, 25% of 11th grade students, 28% of 9th grade students, 32% of 8th grade students, and 54% of 5th grade students in MN say "adults in my community care quite a bit/very much about me". Flip the language and say out loud the % of students who feel adults don't care about them. This is why our community efforts to listen to and come alongside our young people is so important. Our young folks need multiple layers of support and this isn't only the school's responsibility. We continue our efforts to open a youth center in our small rural community for this very reason; our youth have told us what they need! Why are so many school kids not showing up for class? What's keeping them out of school and what's the impact? A good one. Quality education is the key to a growing and safe community.
I am incredibly humbled by the amount of support I’ve received from our community. Megan and I love Fishers and our schools dearly and want our son and future children to have the same experience as we did in school. I look forward to sharing my vision for our schools with voters!

The Black church may not have even had a building, but created this social structure that was used as a financial institution to empower the Black community. The Church tithed, gave money, but it wasn't just to support the church; it was to support freedom. It helped to fund the Underground Railroad, an escape of slaves and resettlement. In states and countries that did not have slavery, it also supported Black communities in times of emergency. It funded not just the community needs and emergencies; it also funded the formation of Black businesses. So many of the earliest economic institutions in the U.S. were funded by the philanthropic institution called the Black church.
